We sold the lexus is200 over the weekend and bought a mk1 focus tddi and I carnt get over how quick and responsive they are lol we only got the 90ps version and im really impressed in how they handle and the great mpg that they give.Its only an X reg one with 140 thou and its got the full service history from new.Its has age related marks but I can get them sorted out.The Is200 was to heavy on juice just for going round town the missus used it as a daily to go back and forth from college and to the shops so it was just a waste on fuel.

The focus.es. are a bloody good car.I drove my mates 03 reg tdci and I was impressed with how well it went.

We have tranny connects at work with both the tddi and tdci engines and they seem really flat.

There is defo lots of grunt in them and ive read that you can have them remapped as well

I've got a 1999 TDDI Focus Ghia and love it.

The TDDI might not have as much power or torque as the newer TCDI but is a far simpler and more reliable machine. Mine does not even have ABS brakes

As for the fuel pump failure, so I believe it is normally the EDC module on the pump which fails. You can get them repaired for about Ł250 and it is a DIY remove and refit for the EDC module.

Just look out for rot on the car!

We have the GHIA model.There is rust on the passenger rear door but im not fussed about it lol there is loads of silver focuses about and in the scrap yard so I can pick a door up.We used to have a 1.6 focus on a 2001 plate and the diesel focus handles better than the petrol lol.I carnt remember where the child locks are on the focus though on the last focus we had I put them on but I carnt remember where they are this was years ago when I did the last ones lol I think there was a latch or you turned the key in the latch or some thing like that.

I had a TDDi Ghia a few years back and I hated it!! Sold it to buy a new gearbox for my Cossie!!

If you look at the rear door catches you can see where the door key goes. Stick the key in and turn them to operate the child locks.

I had the focus for the whole day today while the missus was at work and the drive on the 17inch alloys was terrible.There multi stud wheels with 205/40/17 and it sounds like its making a droning noise,you can defo hear more of the road and I hate the sound of it.

I had a set of momo arrows on the wifes focus. It looked smart handled ok. I put the standard wheels back on and it drives so much better. I will see how I feel next year. I might just leave the standard wheels on.

I did the big wheel thing once on a Golf TDI I had and regretted it straight away.

It looked nice and gave more grip but was skittish and killed the fuel economy.

I have never gone back and got big wheels again on any car I've had and they are so shit. Look at F1 cars, they have tiny wheels and massive tyres.

Got 17" mp3 alloys on mine with 215/40/17 and im thinking of getting smaller wheels. Out of interest what was the original alloy and tyre size?

Gonna need a new drivers door soon as well as the rust is starting to consume it!!

As long as it has standard brakes, almost all Ford 4 stud wheels will fit it. Minimum 14" diameter.

Heres mine! 2000 TDDi 90 with 205k on it now!

Bottoms of the doors have surface rust and there is a front wheel bearing going on it, along with a clicky drift shaft. Apart from that its spot on.

Ive added a Ghia fuel computer (had to wire into the loom), Variable Wiper Stalk, LED lights all round, Ford Blaupunkt speakers, Mondeo ST24 Alloys, Remapped to 121BHP! and 276nm! And a pipercross panel filter, Deffinatly makes a difference, Average MPG went up from 45 to 49!

Everything is spot on, paint work even comes up like new after a decent polish!

Not bad for Ł500 with 99% service history!

Cannot fault it really, pulls well, loads of room and handles brilliantly! You can throw them into corners and theres no fuss, they are a very well balanced car for such a wadge of metal!

Hi All, sorry for reviving this old thread but I am having some problem with my Ford Focus 2003 TDDI. I was teaching my girlfriend driving and she stalled the engine twice. When it stalled first, the car started fine but the second was a little hard and the engine doesn't start anymore. Before this everything was running great.

This happened a month ago and its still not fixed. I called the breakdown guy and he took to my nearest indie garage where I usually go for repairs.

First the mechanic thought it was the cam belt so he opened the engine to check everything. Then he thought it was a fuel pump so he took out the fuel pump and took it to a Bosch service provider. The guy was asking for 700EUR so I searched google if it was worth it. I came to know about the EDC module so searched for some diesel injection specialist who could repair it. Finally found one and he repaired the edu module for 250. When we fitted everything back, its still not starting. The mechanic says the car starts without diesel fine using some chemical(I think he is referring to easy start) so it must be the pump again.

My option now is to get a second hand pump but I am not sure if it will help. Can there be any other problem? Does this car have a fuel cut off switch (Inertia switch).

Any help is much much appreciated. I traded in my old hyundai coupe for this car just a month ago. It lasted be 3 days and dead since. The car doesn't have any warranty.
