hi im new here
my wife has a 55 plate 1.8 tdci focus ghia its done 99k full service history inc cambelt etc etc

yesterday had red light come on the dash and a warning message that said 'engine system failure' , we got home fine , turned engine off and back on and the message had gone.

today she went to work and the red light and message came up again then car went into limp mode. she pulled off highway turned it off and back on and was ok again , she managed to get home and left it on the drive.

when i got home i had a look at the fault log by holding the rest button and nothing was logged.
does anyone know what causes this fault ????

Could be many things get it to a garage and get the fault codes read by a diagnostic computer. Even if the engine management light is not on it should have stored the fault codes. Once they have been read you can at least pin point an area for the fault, instead of throwing money at it trying different bits and bobs!

hi i got it back from the garage today the fault code was EGR , they looked at the valve and said it looked brand new , they cleaned it , deleted the fault off the list and gave us the car back.
they said if the fault comes up again they will order and fit a new valve.
i drove the car home with no trouble so fingers crossed
