Default Oil in Intercooler (and air filter)

Hi guys

First post on here, I'll try and keep it as brief as possible.

Just taken my car to the mechanics just for a general check up and whilst everything seemed to be fine, the mechanic told me that he had found oil in both the intercooler and also traces in the air filter too.

He told me that it was currently nothing to worry about but that if it got any worse there is a chance that the engine will begin to continually rev as I am driving (and that if this should happen, to pull over and stall the car before it over revs) and that this could potentially destroy my turbo (and/or engine...I can't remember).

Just wondering if any of you guys have experienced this and what you did to prevent or fix this, or what ended up happening to your turbo and engine?

I'm assuming that as he didn't change or replace anything today that there is no reason to change/replace anything at the moment. But should I think about replacing parts soon before it's too late?

Thanks in advance.

usually a sign of an engine heavy breathing which could be down to things such as piston rings
if an engine runs on, on oil it usually kills the engine as there is no way of switching them off it will just rev to its maximum until it either consumes all the oil in intercooler etc or just blows up you will not be able to stall it in time trust me!

This is normal on many new diesel cars. It comes from breather ventilation on rocker cover, and been suck in on the hoose between turbo and airfilter. Oil trap in rocker cover is to simple and let oil and gases coming tru. We seen this on many Fords, when they are new and also many other cars have this

I'm pretty amateur at all this. Are you saying that this is normal and I shouldn't be too worried or that it is common problem that happens that needs to be sorted out asap? It's a 2005 Focus with about 147,000 on the clock, so it's not old but not new so I'm unsure what you mean by "new" Fords.

I'm seeing answers on other forums that it's nothing to worry about, and then on others I am seeing answers that say my engine will basically blow up.

If it needs to be fixed, what is it that I need to ask the mechanic to fix (but in simple terms so that I can understand what I'm asking as well).

Thanks again, really appreciate it.

Nothing to worry about, It`s always oil in there when we have sevice on them, from first service. If you will do something to it, then you have to make a new breather system, in a better way then the oe one.
