Focus 2006 Diesel Pump Question?
I am on the verge of buying a 2006 1.6 TDCI ZETEC (110)
it has done 97k and has a full history (cam belt @ 80k)
I'm currently in negotiations with the seller on the price and spoke to a mechanic friend of mine who said "beware of ford diesels around 100k as the diesel pump tends to die around that mileage"
My question is this a fairly common problem with the ford TDCI engine?
and is there also anything else i should look out for/check before committing to buy?
Thanks.

Although I have no first hand experience, the 1.6 engines are supposed to be more problematic than the other diesels.
How many miles do you do a year? Unless you are doing more than 20k a year I would go for a petrol as when a modern diesel engine goes wrong, it is usually very costly!

It`s a renault engine as well, great when working, horrific when not!!!
Go for the 2.0 tdci as its a bit better but if you can get a vw pd (1.9) engine as their ace.
Or go 1.8 zetec, another great motor.

thanks guys,
I was starting to think that diesel may not be the way to go, it will probably only do 10-12k a year with a lot of that being around town.
think im gonna leave this one and have a search for a petrol car?
any recommendations? I have about 3k and would like something that reliable is cheap to run. (doesn't everyone at the minute)
