Focus 1.6 tdci dpf issues
Yo dudes. My mate has a 58 plate focus 1.6tdci with 92000miles on the clock. He had a warning light on the dash and has been told the dpf probably needs changed. The fluid tank was apparantly empty too. I take it that has something to do with the regen process?
He's been quoted £1000 to replace it! With a young family he cant afford that kind of cash!
Can the dpf be bypassed (decatted) easily? Or Is it possible to hollow it out without issues?
Also, he tried to add a can of fuel additive to the tank and couldn't get the neck to open, do these have some sort of inhibitor switch that only opens with a diesel nozzle?
Cheers

in the car there should be a nozzle to open the "fuel cap" it is normally a small white funnel shape. The dpf can be bypassed but the car will need remapping. Try driving down the motorway at about 70mph in third gear (should be around 3-4000rpm) for 3 miles, this may force it into regeneration, unless the load state is too high.

dfp Removal
Hi
To remove the dpf system you must do the following, remove the catalytic converter and cut 4 inch by 6 inch piece out of the center. In side you will see two exhaust type filters, the first one is the cat and the grey coloured type one is
dpf filter, you need to completely remove this one using a hammer and long chisel, do not remove the cat. One you have removed the dpf filter then flush out the catalytic filter then weld the piece back on you cut out earlier. Now the ECU will need remapped to remove the code which runs the dpf system, this procedure is very common with diesel cars and eliminate any further dpf problems.

Hi, I just got rid of a Pug 407 1.6 diesel as the engine block cracked. Before that i'd had problems with the turbo and DPF. If your Focus has the 1.6L PSA engine, same as my Pug had then the DPF can be flushed out and got back to almost as good as new. You can also buy DPF cleaner. Forte is apparently the best make.
