Fiesta mk2 XR2
Hi,
I've just bought a mk2 XR2 in blue. Still yet to pick it up though, going to collect on Wednesday! This is the car, does anyone know it and what advice would you give when looking around it Wednesday?
Thanks in advance,
Stuart

Incase you struggle a bit with the link here's the spec,
The car went through a restoration around 7 years ago. Receipts in excess of £8000.
Bodywork
All work carried out by Dass Coachwork of Chesterfield and cost around £3000 at the time. Full respray. New parts include
Front Panel
Bonnet
Scuttle
Sills
Rear arch panels
Engine
Rebuild carried out by John Noble Motorsport of Chesterfield, work includes
New pistons
All bearings
Lightened & balanced bottom end
HP oil pump
Twin 40DCOE's
Kent cam
Port matched head
Magnex manifold and stainless steel system
Set up and rolling roaded at 130.8bhp
Serviced beyong belief and cam belt change 2000 miles ago.
Everything else
Spax suspension all round
Some poly bushing
Yoko A539 tyres (inc spare)
Tarox grooved discs & mintex pads
Most parts are new from wheel bearings to the fuel tank and most bills to prove.
Interior is good, seats are good not frayed, rears are like new.
Bad bits
No rust apart from a small bubble next to the sun roof(I've tried to show it in the pictures) this has stayed the same in the past 2 and a bit years of my ownership.
The car is not mint but not far off.
Chance to own a fast becoming rare appreciating hot hatch of the 80's
Please let me know any thoughts

Looks a decent car
There really quite hard to tell what there like as rot in all the areas you can't see for the kit etc
But if you open the bonnet there should be 2 rubber circle grommets either side of the bulkhead take them out and that will allow you to get a look in there and see what the inner wings are like at the top where there bad for rotten
Also if you go in the boot at both rear corners there's usually abit of foam on each corner take that out and feel in about there usually you can tell if the bottoms of the arches are like or what standard the repair work is done
Hope its all fine for you as the nice in tasmin blue quite rare too

First if all thanks for the reply, and thanks for being a normal person! Joined another forum and the first reply was rude, and said I was a fool for buying one with rust by the sunroof!? Is this a big problem? I would of liked to of look before but it's a 180 mile trip so not so easy. Plus it's an e-bay bid, if its not as described I will just say sorry mate, its a shed! I know ebays a sort of legal bind but if its different than advertised then its a breach. I love them in blue, they are becoming rare.

No problem what was the other site ?
As for the rust at the sunroof it looks nothing worst case to so it right cut the action out and piece a new bit metal in to it
As you say you don't need to buy it if it isn't as described , if it is a trek for you maybe best ask for some inner wing and boot floor pics before you set off to make sure it is a good one 1st as they suffer from rotting badly in both they places
As I've had 6 xr2,s and always made a point of showing these places when advertising them

The other site was xrtwo.com. I will check through all the places listed on a guide I have and where you have said. A lot of the body work done has been done, I know it was a few years back but if its a good job how long are you looking until rust strikes again?? Cheers

Right so I've now got the car and its a dream. Apart from some small cosmetics its actually as mint as the pictures, really happy and looking forward to rolling with the saph ^^^^^
One question was with the twin 40s are they always meant to run sooooo rich? I know its rich for top rev range power but its really rich. Is it worth a quick RR to check the set up? Anyone with a cvh running twin 40s please feel free to give me some advice. Cheers

Thanks, I'm off to this Ox-ford meet on the 15th and I think there will be a few people there who could give me some advice. It's garaged at the mo because I've still got the bike to sell and I want to keep her out the rain!
