Question zetec turbo pistons question

hi guys !

so I blew up my cvh engine. it had an efi conversion done with t3 but i did the big end bearing !!

so i have a 2.0L black top zetec sitting here and im gona turbo it and get big horse power from it !

I am going to go with the vauxhall C20LET pistons but what rods do i get ?? do I order the vauxhall rods too or what is my next move ??

I am ordering the 1.8L sump, flywheel and water pump which i read from a previous forum.

also I will use the BC gearbox from the RST so, do I order an RST paddle clutch and it will fit ok ???

thanks in advance guys it will be an epic build !

Dunno about the rods but the black top sump set up is fine as is the water pump. The silvertop water pump won't be a straight bolt on part. Have a look for Karlos G guide on using a ST170 engine as this will give you some help on getting it all mounted in the bay.

As you say you are ordering from vauxhall, what price are the c20let pistons?
When I was building my Zetec turbo (mapping out initial budget) I couldn't find any second hand vauxhall pistons and new ones were only Ł40-50 cheaper than forged Zetec items.

Also Big Horse power + BC gearbox = disaster.
I would look at IB5 or MTX conversions depending on how big your power goal is.

why use random pistons anyway. As said above just buy a proper set of forged pistons and steel rods for the job.

Some companies sell them super cheap compared to others have a good look around

you can run 7 psi on standard rods/engine - but trust me do it properly mate....dont waste time and money on bodge jobs second hand bits....trust me from some one who has made some serious mistakes (but id rather rip my self off rather than some mechanic ripping me off lol)

Save your self alot of bother - i DIY forged/uprated my engine for less than Ł300 (pistons milled 0.2, rods strengthened and peen shotted arp bolts , uprated valve springs) and still going fine after 20,000 miles.but what i found after discussing with serious tuners is that is NOT the way to go and a lot of people on here will say the same thing!.

Doesn't sound right does it? Do yourself a favour just buy the bits slowly build the engine in your kitchen then jutst whack it in! You can buy focus rs mk1pistons from burtons,, theres loads of con rods out there to choose from

Hi all, newbie here. This is my first post

I bought myself a 1989 Bonus 3 door a couple of months ago with plans to do a similar conversion to what fitzpodge is planning (once I've sorted a few things out first on the car). Plan was a 2.0 black top re-bored to fit c20let pistons. From various research I had thought that was the best option for robustness and power without excessive strain.

Forged Zetec pistons. Would these be from a ST turbo? What sort of power can they handle? Or are there any other known-to-work pistons around?

In regards to the rods I have read for the 2.0 C20LET that the standard rods will do so long as the bolts are upgraded (and pin modified to suit the piston). How true this is I'm not sure.

Just get forged low comp pistons for your blacktop. Mine were for a mk1 focus rs.
It's a whole lot less messing about and by the time you've got everything and had the block machined/bored to take the vauxhall pistons you'll porbably break even.

Vauxhall pistons was the quick bodge back in the day as you could get second hand ones almost anywhere for next to nothing.

Cheers. I haven't bought an engine yet so I have options. What you said makes sense, a lot of what I read I think is old. I had noticed it's quite difficult to find used/cheap Vauxhall pistons.

I need to get electric windows fitted & bigger brakes before I start collecting engine parts. Long term plans.
