I am tempted to suggest a Stage 3 T3 but the lag will go up.

I am running a Stage 2(ish) on mine (a 1.8 ZVH running MFI, Kent cam, Stage 3 head, ARP bolts at 18PSI with it making 225BHP. I reckon there is more to come if I can get it onto EFI and dabble with the cam timing. I also reckon it runs out of puff higher up in the rev range, partially down to it being a ZVH. I do sometimes wonder about putting on a Stage 3 (basically it has a larger exhaust housing and turbine), but this car is currently a little laggy to what I am used to with turbo cars (a chipped and mildly tuned 944 Turbo and a stock Mondeo 2.5T) but not horrific. That and the torque curve is very flat:

Should stick my spare stage 2 on Dai and see how it goes, if it's not enough then get a stage 3 and embrace the lag!

Target BHP and budget are what we need to know to advise you mate, but as Stu has suggested one of the GTX or GT range will spool nicely compared to an old T series and flow for good power too.

Target power would be hopefully around 300 or in the very late 200s . I'm ideally after one that isn't a lag monster, something nice and responsive . Would you know if these turbos fit the original cvh lay out , I mean pipework etc

Cheers

I have a very similar setup on my Fiesta Turbo... I run a Turbo Technics T3 stg 3 and TBH I don't find it that 'laggy' at all...

Regards

That is a very flat torque curve for a cvh/zvh! Normally they drop off past 5000 rpm quite badly unless you have a cam/good headwork/more boost.

You are quite rich past 5K though. You would possibly pick up a little power if you were not so rich.

To the OP, what power do you want? Stage 2/3 T3 is relatively cheap and very easy to install. If budget is less of a concern then I would be looking at the GT or GTX range as mentioned.

I think if you're going for a new turbo going for a roller bearing unit is logical especially if you want to cut down on lag. Something like a GT2560R would be good or perhaps a GTX3067R as they're a T3 flange.

GT2560R's are not ideal for high boost rs turbo's. Have a look at the pressure map. They are well suited to higher capacity lower boost applications.

Many thanks!

The richness I am aware of, although it does begin to lean off after 6kRPM;a certain Derby based outfit reckon the injection system is dealing with more than it can handle, even with the 5th injector. It's one reason why I am considering going to a modern EFI setup, maybe one of yours .

It's good to see the GTX ranges being mentioned, it will be something to potentially look into in the future

Around the late 200s - 300 ish if possible mate. What mods would be needed to run a gt or gtx series turbo ? Also what sort of price are these ?

In run a stage 3. I got Dan at turbo rebuild blackpool to do me a custom built turbo Griffo and to be fair am very happy and no lag to bother me to be honest. Not just about the power the engine has now but also a stage 3 will cover a future when it comes to wanting more power if you do as you say dude 😆
