unless you're using ford bearings, use the info from the bearing manufacturer that you intend to use. Also, make sure they are still made first as ACL and Mahle are no longer available for the zetec iirc.

Thanks I've had a look on the mahle website but can't get my head around it. Ave got mahle big end bearings and did have acl mains but the acl mains where damage so got some npr bearings from Burton.

The bearing clearances typically listed range from way too tight, to way too loose.

I always use 0.001" clearance per inch of diameter journal.
A 2.0" journal would have a 0.002" bearing clearance - this is of course measured.

Cheers

Hi mate haven't spoke in awhile hope you are well. The problem am having is the big end bearing is out of the ford spec at 0.063mm fords max says 0.043mm but if I go off the other clearances its in spec so don't know if it will be ok.

I am doing well.

0.063mm main bearing clearance is perfect!
That is 0.0024" clearance on a 2.283" journal size.'
I would not run any tighter clearances.

Factory ford clearances are very tight, and are not meant for any high rpm use.
If using tight bearing clearances very thin synthetic oils must be used (0W-20)

Cheers
