What ECU choices are out there?
This is one of those 'random thought' questions but with the knowledge on this forum it would be interesting to see just what choices are out there, and maybe this thread can serve others in a similar boat.
ATM I am planning on getting my S1 to stock inside and also change the unfriendly Helix 4 paddle to a hybrid setup (basically, I'll be changing the clutch cover). After this I am debating about removing the KE-Jetronic and going to a standalone injection system. ATM the KE is not bad and it has been working well for the year I have owned the car but the fuel consumption could be better (between 20 and 30MPG), and it would be nice to have knock detection etc. on the engine for those iffy moments, in addition to possibly more drivability and maybe even less lag but that could be down to wastegate or boost plumbing issues (my 944 used to lag alot less when it was in 'the zone' and that was also an 8V engine ; that did however have a device present which 'tricked' the wastegate into seeing lower pressures so as to reduce the lag by staying close for longer and not 'creeping' open (something like this: http://www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Part...TENHANCER.html).
I say drivability but it does seem to be great since I changed a few things on the engine. It has torque off boost, and it's not even a horrific starter in the mornings. However, the fuelling does go up 1 AFR towards lean (from 11 to 12) at the upper rev range, which has been cited as a fuelling limitation issue.
The spec of the engine is as follows: 1.8 ZVH with Stage 3 head, Piper camshaft, Stage 2 T3 Turbo @ 18PSi, Bleed valve (I think this is an NMS jobby) and MF-II 5th Injector setup, Pace chargecooler setup with a Mongoose exhaust system.
It would also be nice to have output on the ECU for controlling the cooling fan and also in my case the chargecooler pump.

-Megasquirt MS3
-Omex 700
-Emerald K3/6
-Cosworth derivatives
After totting things up it seems the costs are well over £1.4k whichever setup I go with, albeit with the parts all being new. Suddenly the Cosworth route looks appealing but dealing with old ECUs and other peoples bodges is never fun.
My question is what other choices have I missed out and could less fancy ECUs do what I want? I guess the simple option would be to tone things down a little but where is the fun in that?

If you can get them for the money you've totted up Omex or emerald would be good choices. If you're budget conscious, why not try a Boost Monkeys Gen8 ECU? It'll do everything you want and more, integrate with your current sensors plus the piece of mind that a new engine loom brings.

Cheers for the reply.
The costs were roughly done I admit with me planning to use the Siemens Deka injectors over the Bosch offerings . I was planning on using the flywheel from my engine (a Zetec item) with the engine mounted crank sensor which is handily already present. However, I would require the rest of the stuff (MAP, TPS (Maybe I could use mine...), fuel rail, injectors, FPR, Coilpack and leads, many other odds and sods along another manifold (I have an MFI item I could modify) or EFI (But I understand the strut brace will no longer fit if they are put onto an unmodified MFI head).
I was also planning to fit the lot myself and potentially make the loom from scratch using their own basic loom as a base ; After dicking around with knackered LPG looms on other cars (sorry, botched!) I can appreciate that sometimes it is far better to start from scratch on some matters. The car however would go to a Dyno to be mapped.
I knew I forgot about Boost Monkeys! I recall Karlos G mentioning them and saying how they were great value. I take it Gen8 would potentially not require an EDIS module in addition to controlling boost via a solenoid in addition to having fan and chargecooler (well, an output of sorts) for my needs as well as being flexible enough to map. ATM the car is making 230BHP @18PSi but I have a suspicion the cam timing is out.

I meant to say that the 600 was the one I was looking at . It's not the loom (even a fully built loom) and ECU which is putting me off; it's the rest of the costs. Due to running MFI I will need to basically redo the entire injection system, which as far as I can see will cost big bucks. But yes, it would be alot better than what I have and have seen less hands along the way.

As always when this pops up, go with whatever your chosen tuner recommends (Unless that happens to be old Cossie stuff which IMO is expensive and troublesome).
A GEN8 if your tuner can map it is a great choice and no it doesn't need an EDIS module, spark drivers are built in.

As always when this pops up, go with whatever your chosen tuner recommends (Unless that happens to be old Cossie stuff which IMO is expensive and troublesome).
