New engine. 1.6 turbo or zetec N/A ? opinions
Hi Guys.
Im going to start on rebuilding my old MK4 EFI escort, soon. I just have the worst time deciding what engine to go for.
Cvh Turbo engine or going zetec 2.0? Im going to tune it either way, i would be happy with 200-220 hp at the wheel while still keeping some driverbility. The car is light so it should feel real fast.
The CVH turbo does have a lot of easy/awesome bolt ons, LOADS of info and parts out there, but its getting old and harder to replace if some sensor dies, or the old shit blows up. But the turbo stuff is AWESOME and i love the kickback in the seats.
The Zetec would be easy and a lot cheaper to get, and sounds the business with ITBs and cams. But it will ofc be a lot harder to push 200-210 whp out of, and maybe it will feel a bit gutless under 4k-ish revs. I've seen some zetecs with st170 head do 220-230+ whp. It will however cost alot more to tune.
The car is going to be used as a summer daily, mostly just for having fun thrashing about, maybe do some tracksday maybe not.
What would you choose? Im not letting you deciding, i just want to hear peoples thoughts on it!

ST170 based zetec turbo conversion for that power level.

Sh*t i forgot to say, it can ONLY be the cvh turbo or the Zetec black/silver top N/A. As i live in Denmark i cant get anything else approved for the car.
So thats my only engine choices. I would LOVE the zetec turbo, but the if i get stop by the police, its game over and a VERY big fine.
As for the 230hp + n/a zetec powerlevel, this is my source mate: http://www.turbosport.co.uk/showthread.php?t=140239

In Denmark you are allowed to put a bigger engine in, with maximum 20% more horsepower, or tune the original. There is a rule however, stating that putting boost on your car/nonboost engine will 1. act as an engine transplant, and 2. count as more than 20% more horsepower (regardless of the real effect) - turbocharging a none turbo engine is always a crime in Denmark. Sadly.
Example, Turbo charging a 3i engine = illegal, and cant on any circumstance get an approval. BUT dropping a original RST engine in to the same car, can be done legally, as long as you get the right papers from FORD and pay new taxes on it.

Only allowed to go 132 (stock rst) + 20%, on a engine change. So the engine im allowed to drop in is maximum 158,4 horsepower. The irony is that is may tune that engine even further, when its in and motted.
