1600cvh best power

PassionFord Post Whore!!
You see a few few 250s about. Personally unless you have deep pockets id just go with 200ish fast and more reliable. If your going for massive power there's better engines out there to do the job id say

Always a pleasure!
It's all about how deep your pockets are.... IIRC NMS have achieved just over 500bhp but it's so extensively modified it's a far reach from the original CVH.

NMS use a custom crank, rods and pistons into a relined Duratec block (IIRC) to bring it back down to 1600cc, they then extensively weld the head and re-machine it to achieve the desired flow along with larger valves etc, a custom NMS profile cam is ground by Newman with solid lifters, then it's manifolds and a suitable turbo, finally mapped by Karl.
I think last I spoke the cost was around Ł6000+

Simple fact of the matter is the blocks are just too old and weak now and nothing can be done other than go with a more modern block (zetec for example ). No two ways about it at 300+ it can't be reliable and you'll constantly be waiting for it to split. I could no longer live with that so I've gone with a new one.

So what's seen as the limit of the standard block and crank nowadays? 260?

From what a specialist told me it really comes down to the condition of the block thus the question is "How long is a piece of string?". He was saying that he is seeing many blocks that are now becoming brittle due to age and also down to how thin the walls are on a 1.6 CVH. The 1.9 is not meant to be as bad in this respect and neither is the Zetec bottom end.
I am running 225BHP on a ZVH and it has given me enough grief, albeit over silly things. I have done around 5-6k in it this year mind you, probably 3 times the amount it has done since the car was finally rebuild around 4 years ago and the engine 2 year ago (I'd have preferred the 1.9 long block to have stayed with the car but hey ho...).

Gus your car is the bollocks mate, one of my fav RS turbos ever.
I had an NMS 1600 cvh for around 7 years and it gave me no grief at all and was 100% reliable the whole time.
Was 300hp and 300 torque at just under 2 bar boost.
I loved it.
Weak point as already mentioned is the blocks.
I had a thicker walled series 1 cvh block in mine and it was as good as gold.
I was gonna take the power up further and change the spec but instead I sold it to fund going the Cosworth route.
Cheers Paul

What management are people using to get the big power I have cosworth management at the moment but not sure if to get the ripped off and go with omex just for ease of mapping

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I had 270bhp on kjet in 2002 with zero issues although i did use a 50 jet of nitrous. I saw stuarts at jamsport and it was a epic build and very light weight

My car is not a powerhouse by any standard. Years ago it used to make 270BHP from a 1.9 long block using KE-Jetronic and a 5th injector. It is now on a 1.8 ZVH making 225BHP. IMO there is a little more to come from the car (the charge temps have been reduced since the last RR and I am not convince the cam timing is all that on the car) but we shall see. I certainly will not get beyond 240BHP with the above tweeks IMO. It is still on the above injection setup running well for the best part, albeit not perfect (the fuel pump needs 'priming' via the ignition key for it to start first time if left for more than a week, the cold starting (from dead cold) could be better but the cold start injector is not wired up. I want to check the wiring before simply hooking it up to rule out a few things (i.e a bodged loom).
Gus, that looks like a lovely build and it sounds like it has the spec to match. It would be interesting to see the full spec of it. That must really be a flying machine!

My spec is
Wossner pistons
Pec rods
Newmans cam and solids
8.5.1
Roller rockers
Big valve head
Standard matched manifolds
Would it be safe for 7500?

Im no expert by far, but pretty sure head spec would be fine for 7500rpm,,
My cvh head on my zvh was still on standard rockers at 7620rpm BUT no guarantee it would last very long! Actually the stud holes for the rockers where modified! Which supposedly makes a differance,
You should speak to harland sharpe in the states for roller rockers, i was speaking to them about a set before i decided to go zetec turbo
