Default Zetec turbo gearbox options - any help?

ok guys, I've got an MTX gearbox currently on the motor (well it's removed from the car). Its a non LSD diesel box I believe.

Its not an RS turbo (yet....!) but a mid engine dax kit car..

I have bought an RS Focus box as I was planning to use the Focus RS clutch and the beefier shot peened gears in the box (400-430hp ish).

Got some questions though...!!! got no experience of MTX boxes and hoping for help

- My shifter linkage is a rod linkage at minute and hydraulic clutch slave... RS box uses cable shift, I'm guessing to modify this (as length wont be right) could be a proper nightmare??

- ratios - Ratios on the RS box will be similar but a bit leggier at the top gears ?? Is this a sensible move or will it screw my gearing?

Also, gearbox mounts are totally different, major PITA . Not sure what route to take. Keep standard box no LSD -> Helix paddle clutch OR push on with the RS focus? anyone done this before in rear engined setup

thanks

Just remove the guts from the frs box and put it in your box.

I've been told that not all guts will fit in all MTX casings though....?
Not sure if that is true but a well known zetec builder said it when I asked about clutches.
Also, I can imagine it being quite full on stripping and rebuilding the gearboxes , are there any good places I could take the boxes to get it done??

I dont have any gearbox tools or experience rebuilding them... but would have a go if there is any good threads on it lol

I'm using a frs clutch in my rs2000 box but you need to space it out a few mill, or you can use a sach frs clutch which fit with no mods.

Thanks, so sachs FRS clutch will work with focus 2 litre flywheel and my MTX box?

What do others reckon? Is an LSD really worth all this effort?!! I never had traction issues before but the power was half

There was a thread on here where somebody did the same conversion but the diff tightened too much and he noticed the RS box has a thin metal gasket/spacer? Iirc the fella made this own gasket and this shimmed the diff enought for it to turn freely. I'm only going by memory but I think he was using a connect bellhousing. If I find the thread I post a link....

Well the bolt patter on the two bellhouses seems the same, I think I will have a bash at swapping the internals.

If the current one is indeed MTX diesel gearing, if I was to fit the FRS gearing, will it be worse or better for my car?? lol.

As in faster to a lower top speed (short gearing?) or long gearing and more leggy but a higher top speed?

Also, I have measured my flywheel, it is about 280mm diameter, It is the zetex 2 litre one.
Will the sachs Focus RS clutch kit work with this?
thanks

I fitted the Focus RS clutch and flywheel together the mk5 Escort Diesel gearbox casing with a silvertop zetec. Very little grinding was actually needed, and I think I changed the type of some bolts for a lower profile if I remember anymore. The Focus RS bellhousing a a little deeper, 6mm perhaps it was, so it would also put the gearbox a little deeper into the left inner wing.
