That looks more like an xr3i distributor. I might be wrong but I think an rs turbo distributor doesn't have the vacuum advance module.

No because that seller is an idiot, Thats not an RS turbo unit. Looks like an XR3i/Orion 1.6i Ghia one.

If needs be I don't mind having it sent to mine and could then ship it to Spain. Don't imagine postage would be much to there as its within the EU, probably around Ł15

@RSmark84 you said you swaped the whole unit and ignition timing didn't change? The unit has two slotted holes to adjust ignition timing or are you not talking about taking the whole unit of?

As i want to swap mine as well your assertion is quite interesting to me

Nope never timed since fitting it. Marked up where the old one was and fit the replacement exactly as the other one, checked, It with a strope light just to confirm. It was fine....Its been off several times since for maintenance etc and always put back on exactly as rremoved.

Ok, bought the one rsmark84 suggested. It will probably take like a week and a half to get here. On another note I hit a brick wall on getting recaros. There's a car with a set of nice ones about 4 hours away with a blown motor. I may ask him if he will trade seats plus like 500 euro. Other than that I think I'm taking a road trip in a van to the UK.

Now i get it. I thought you ment you just put it on random and timing always stayed the same. So i thought maybe you didn't take of the whole part and left the bit with the slotted holes.

Now we are on the same page again

So does any one know where to get the original seat fabric? I found a set of Recaro seats but they need reupholstered. The Recaro emblems are shot too.

Recaro emblems tend to pop up on eBay quite often, as for the fabric, I remember twins on here had rolls of zolda fabric (90 spec pattern) and the grey bolster fabric for sale a year or two ago, might be worth sending him a message.

If the Recaro badges have lost the silver/white paint, you can use torque paint pens to repaint them.

O for an update, still waiting on the wheel bolts and dizzy. I thought they were being delivered today but it was just a window crank that I ordered

Here is a like to the seats I found forsale.

Seats dont look that great for your car... But take a seat from your car, and a Recaro and get them to strip the material from yours onto a recaro and then give them the other 2.

Also looking at your insturment cluster, i'd say your temp gauge looks knackered as that is sitting way to low. You can remove the needle and re-sit it on the lowest point of the 'reading' of the gauge if needed. It just pulls off. be firm and pull of straight, not at an angle.

Ok, I will try to realign my temp gauge this weekend and let you know how it goes. I just replaced the temp sensor near the distributor. The connector is in very rough condition. One of the pins was broken in half i had to solder the pin. I plan on finding an old harness with a good one and taking it to replace mine. I am pretty sure it is now functioning correctly with the exception of the misaligned gauge.

I was thinking about doing that with the seats. I could probably find the gray material or something close very easily. The stuff that would be difficult to get is the center material. I have never seen a Recaro escort seat in person, so i wasnt sure if there would be enough material from mine to do that.

Something else i did that I thought would be a good idea was to repair the collapsed arm rest on the door panel with a fiberglass repair kit. I just took off the door panel and fiber glassed over the back of the damaged area. It looks better than it was but it just isn't perfect. It can function as a arm rest now with out my arm sliding off of it. I can get good ones shipped to me from ebay. When I get new ones I am definitely reinforce the arm rests on the panels to ensure that they don't sag. I have other things i am worried about right now that is a little down the road. Can you convert those windows to power? Or would it be too much trouble?

Electric windows were an optional extra for mk4s, nearly all RS Turbos had them so should be fairly easy to get the electric window set up from a car being broken for parts or in a scrapyard near you

Keep the winders. Electric are a hassle, slow and it'll cost a few coinage to buy all the parts. Plus you'd be left with a hole in that door card(unless you did get a replacement.

Also the door pulls are different and you'll never be happy with buying a pair of 2nd hand ones. Plus very very expensive for very good/excellent ones.

So I have have a bud who is looking for a cheap car in Spain. I found another RS with recaros in mint condition. It's a good price. He doesn't care about seats as long as it runs good. But we may go in on it together and I can get the seats. Or I may buy it move my wheels over and sell mine. It's a white s2 1990. It's got power windows and locks and a moon roof. The back window don't pop though.

Sorry even though my language is english some terms or words for parts are called something different in America. Like in the USA a bonnet is called a hood. But any how its a window on the roof, also known as a sun roof.

Ahh, yes the American language is a bit stupid really, Gas??? its bloody petrol! If it was gas it wouldn't be a fluid substance.

However English people are pretty thick at understanding their own language. I swear foreign people can spell and write better English than your average Englishman.

Anyway moving swiftly on, Your parts should arrive this week?

Haha...., that is true about gas? I like petrol personally if I said that in America people would look at me weird. In regards to the parts I was hopeing for them today. But my mail box was empty : ( I hope it fixes my problem.

So I had my timing redone by a mechanic it was running pretty well. I messed with a screw/ knob by the throttle body because it was idling poorly but now the. Car runs like shit again. Is this a coincidence or should I stop adjusting things?

What one did you adjust idle speed(spring round the bolt) or the idle RPM(stud with the washer). Both are on the throttle body.

You shouldn't be messing with the idle speed, also the S2 should idle roughly 850 RPM.

Yea it was at 600ish I cranked it up to 800-850. So just for a little update. The wheel bolts got returned to sender due to a wrong address. They are going to have to re ship them.... The Dizzy I bought was bad the car wouldn't start with it in.....I am pretty sure it's the dizzy causing problems because if the car is running badly and you remove the distributor then put it back in the car runs like an animal for about 30 minuets. Then starts running like shit. So I need to find a dizzy or get one of the ones I got rebuilt or something. O also I found out I changed the the thermostat fan sensor not the engine temp sensor. So changed that and fixed a broken wire the thermo needle is now at 0.

Just read your PM, can you post a picture of your seat subframes. they look the same as the Recaro ones, but cant remember if the low spec/XR seats used the same ones.
