Default How does this spec sound?

Hi all, going to covnert my 1.8 EFI ZVH to full ZT.

I plan on going down this route then obviously progress later down the line, so the following:

ST170 with Blacktop Head
CVH EFI Inlet on Adaptor plate
T3 Turbo
OFAB with map on it for 1.9 Tall Block, beiges etc

Will that be ok until I start to chase more power again?

Ahmed Bajyoo / Mark @ Grove Garage did them for Ian Howell back in the day. Possibly try Ian or Mark. Maybe worth checking cr with them tho. Not aure if they st/blacktop combo would be different to what Ian used to build.

Don't forget a set of ARP rod bolts and your bonnet will not shut with an EFI inlet on a ZT, just use the black top inlet.
As said get the correct chip/map for that engine or all your hard work could be wasted.

Hi, I was under the impression that ST170 rod bolts are the same as Focus RS items, if not will get some ARP's. Its going in a MK2 Fiesta so will have to check bonnet clearance issues and will try sort a map/chip out then!

Your missing vital info.

what pistons do you have
will they allow low cr on a 16v head In turbo form
Why do this to an 1800
Map sensor will only flow for 1 bar of boost which is lame
management is batch firing and not good enough to control a 16v in short
no need for st170 head on 1800 without decent parts inside

Exactly, but ok no worries Jano I'll make it simple for you..

Map sensor will only flow for 1 bar of boost which is lame Agreed, I would recommend something else.
management is batch firing and not good enough to control a 16v in short This isn't even close to being true.

Thanks guys. I do understand OFAB is not the best to use on this, but being as I dont fancy forking out thousands in one go for uprated turbo, management etc im gonna get it in and running and upgrade from there.. It will work itself out.. eventually

Yep makes total sense now sorry.

Basically you want to cut loads of corners and end up with a 16v zt thats unreliable, low power and gets beaten by a std cvh with decent management.

Sounds like karlos's advise, good luck with that.

You'll still make around 250bhp even at only a bar of boost, then as you say you can upgrade management and turbo etc. as money allows.

It was obvious mate, it's a common ZT build... Jano was just being deliberately obtuse.

At the end of the day its going in a MK2 Fiesta, ST170 bottom ends good for 300hp.. Thats all I want. Anymore its pointless. If thats achievable without nailing Ł2k+ on a a base engine then im all game. Sometimes you got to accept that not everyone can afford to do it the "proper" way. Plus all this is paid for with spare cash I have, not my credit card

If your current ofab/ofac loom is in good order the ofam looks great.

I re-made my OFAB loom so its pretty much new. I figured by the time I pay for a chip for my current spec (Ł250) it makes sense to sell my OFAB ECU and Chip and put the Ł250 towards OFAM..

As your loom as basically new yes that is an excellent idea, unbeatable ECU for plug and play fitting, features and price!

Karlos, im going to be ordering OFAM like I said. Ive got a Rover Turbo inlet manifold with 701 injectors in coming my way. So next question, will my T3 turbo be ok for now until I can afford an upgrade?

If so great for now, but what turbo do you recommend to replace it?

Next question, fuel pressure, what shall I run? Standard rail pressure be ok?

Last question, shall I invest in an AFR gauge?

Those injectors will be fine with a standard turbo but will need binning once you go bigger.
Stock fuel pressure and rail are fine.
Fitting a WBO2 and gauge is a good idea if you can afford the extra Ł150.
A Stage 3 T3 is perfect for your build if staying with the T series.

Cheers dude! Ill get injectors after a wideband setup.

For the mean time spec is going to be:

ST170 Bottom End
Blacktop Head with ST Valve Springs
1.8mm Gasket
Rover Turbo Inlet with 701 Injectors
RS Turbo T3 (Standard)
OFAM

Im thinking just set it up for low boost until I can afford a Turbo and Injectors as I pretty much have all the parts ready now bar the ECU.

Sounds good to me mate, it will only be able to hold about 7 or 8psi flat out anyway so low boost is all you'll get! lol

At the moment my Turbo is holding 10psi on actuator pressure. Shall I just leave it at that when I fit it to the Zetec motor?

It all started with a simple conversion, now im spending loads haha

Always the way mate! lol
The 2.0 flows more air than the 1.8 (obviously lol) so just fit it and see what it will do... well get your chosen tuner to see what it will so, don't turn it up yourself.
