On all cylinders or just one. Maybe an injector is faulty and flooding. On all maybe a really weak spark and drowning it out.

If I remove all plugs and crank it over it pumps fuel out of plug holes

Pull a lead of a plug and check how powerful the spark is, could be that rather than too much fuel, just not a enough bang to ignite it

Metering unit faulty, sounds like it's jammed open if pumping enough fuel into the engine for it to come out the plug holes...

Definitely sounds like a metering unit problem, there shouldn't be that much fuel coming through on cranking!

Will be very worthwhile to take it for a setup now, don't want to risk the fuelling being miles out.
