Default safe boost on std pistons and rods?

Hi all,
Following my recent thread on my s2 project I have now started to rebuild the engine. just wondering what experience people have had or what advice you can give on safe boost limit using std pistons and rods.

when I took it on it was set to run at 16 psi and had been like this for the last 30,000 miles BUT when I stripped the motor I found one broken piston and two bent rods, could be down to excessive boost or just sheer abuse????

I know more boost needs more fuel etc but just wondering what psi can reliably be run with std rods and pistons if all else is correct

Thanks in advance....Mike

i may be wrong but a bar is about the safe limit, if setup properly and everything is tip top. assuming theturbo you are using is up to the job

thanks for the advise.
one bar being approx 14.5 psi? I guess my 16 psi could be the cause of bent rods etc. next question being what would be a good choice of cost effective & uprated rods to run with std pistons?

when I say a bar, I say that meaning the safe limit with a bit of margin. I wouldn't have thought it would cause the damage you have described but that comes down to the condition of the engine and wether t was setupcorrectly

It's not a question that can be answered mate.... Boost is relative to an engines VE.
What you should be asking is how much power can they take, the answer to which is around 240bhp (rods are the weak point) but that's only if treated with mechanical sympathy, not bouncing off the limiter all day long for example! lol Oh and assuming the engine is in very good health.
