Are you getting a 12v live and a earth at the pump?

As far as I know it's the same relay for the intermittent wiper which seems to be fine

What do you mean by two lives?

The switch completes the ground.

Just going by what my mechanic was finding,he is at a loss as to what the problem could be,it would seem that when you press the switch both wires to the pump are both live

the pump is a 2 way unit, just buy a series 1 or mk3 escort pump , fit it and add an earth
you won`t have a rear washer, but your front will work,
hardly ever need the rear washer anyway
tape the other live up or use the 2 lives in 1, add the earth to the other, sorted !!

it does show an earth not far from the switch, maybe on column or above drivers front speaker area, you could have missed 1 out sometime, have a good look with a torch, otherwise fit the mk3 pump and settle for working front washer, rear isn`t a mot fail

sounds silly but have you put the wipers on when trying? all my mk4s have only worked when wipers put on first

Just an update, the problem turned out to be the connector near the washer bottle.all cleaned up and working fine.
