Default Steering column help

Put together the steering column this morning and replaced all the bushes. Should the thing that holds the lock be banged down to cover the slit/opening on the Column? Cheers Simon

.

You need to put the key in the barrel and turn it forward so that it goes further down.

your missing an alloy part the goes over the tube first to slip over the 2 bolts that face you end on , as you sit in car,
yes the lock assembly slips down to about an inch before it tapers to the wider part of the tube , so no slot is visible
