Default Best gearbox?

Hi, I'm sure it's prob been asked before but what is the best gearbox to use on my Rs turbo, I'm gonna be running 250-280 Bhp so want to be able to cope with that sort of power, I'm still cvh so what is the most straight forward/ swap option? Also any other pointers/mods would be appreciated? Different 5th gear? Etc cheers

Cts do uprated boxes but think they're quite expensive compared to focus rs box conversion

I was quite lucky as the series one came with an uprated GEARS gearbox with better diff, big bearings etc already in it

IB5 out of a mk5/6 escort.
Ka 1.3 gearset
Use the FD out of the IB5 and fit the LSD from your standard box. This will give you slightly taller gears which I prefer, more sensible rpm at 70mph.

(If you want identical ratios you'll need to source a PUMA 1.7 FD and the lsd will need modifying.)

This is a direct swap, bigger bearings as standard, more webbing on the box making it stronger, and its not like most BC boxes which are 20+ years old and suffering from metal fatigue.

Diesel/petrol BC boxes are the same.

Just remembered as well, if you go for the IB5 box route, get yourself a puma gearlinkage as well. One of the best mods I've done to my car.

That is what's in my s1 but with an uprated diff.

I'll find the reciept with the phone number bud. Pretty sure it was about Ł700

I'm looking into buying all the bits but seems like such a ball ach unless you know how to build a gear box, 3 old boxes just to make one good one if you got the time guess it's worth it

It says IB5 bearings and LSD.
Regardless of what it changes, its still a BC box which are 20+ years old and probably suffering from metal fatigue.
If you use an IB5 you already have those bearings (captain obvious) plus extra webbing on the bell housing to make the box stronger.

I opted for the full Ka 1.3 box and also bought a Ka starter to go with mine.

What revs should I expect from my car at 70mph? Is it gonna be horrendous lol

I'm sure there are calculators online you could find out. Obviously it depends on tyre/wheel size etc..

IIRC the ka 1.3 FD is 4.06, the standard rs turbo BC is 3.82

Sport and Street are front starter but the casing is offset and requires a lot of modding of the cradle to get it to fit correctly.

Better off using a casing that is already front starter and not offset (Escort Diesel van non turbo, MK5 Escort CVH IB5).
