XR3i Cabrio conversion questions
I've just picked up my new XR3i cab and someone has already fired in the EFi block from a later escort into it - I know I want to get the MFi turbo engine into it but I'm not sure what they have actually changed wiring wise to get this done.
Is it a big rewiring job to have this all done if they have had to change anything to get it running on the EFi management or is it a straight fit and forget job in a way like a normal engine replacement?
The car did originally have MFi, and then a ZVH in it a few years ago.
I know I have Sitech along the road to go to and get a look, but with being on holiday right now I wouldn't mind getting some info as to what to change, and what to look out for with changing the cabrio to the turbo engine, do i have to change any brackets etc on the engine bay for the metering unit etc.
Cheers
Neil

Why do you want to go mfi turbo opposed to efi turbo? Backwards step (and i'm an mfi owner). If theres efi in there now albeit n/a, I'd try keep it simple and just upgrade to efi turbo. Will be far less expense, far less in setup/problem solving and long term better availability/cheaper costs for replacement parts

I take it that its just a case of getting the EFi engine fitted in and then change a few sensors from there? Not done much with these bar the pinto engines in my capri so this is all pretty much new to me for going this far on these.
I take it the original EFi head is no good to use and I'd be as well buying a full EFi turbo engine and putting it in from there and can utilise the original box in it until the LSD box is bought for it?

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
Hello mate,
Most of this covered in the sticky at the top. Is it just an EFi block or is it a factory EFi car?
As said, if you're running EFi now, there's no point going backwards to MFi.
If I were you I'd look for a Fiesta Turbo CVH, throw it in, check the wiring pinouts as per the sticky and fit your choice of management (OFAB/OFAC/OFAM are popular).
There are a few additions you'll need: Air charge temp sensor as an example.
All EFi 1.6 CVH heads are interchangeable, all same valvetrain.
With regards to the gearbox, you can use a non LSD box, I do. The issue is more f the drivability, I find it torque steers a lot without the LSD.

Hi Lee
Its originally an 88 MFi block motor, 3 years ago it had the ZVH turbo in it but when it went boom the owner stuck a standard EFi from a mk5 escort in.
I'll get a look at the sticky and pop down to Sitech as its just along the road from me and get some research done for it. Can't have the mrs having a quicker car than me I put up with that enough last year when she took on my old turbo track car as a road car for 6 months and i had a crappy little 1.5 diesel for going back to work and forth!
