Soo traced back the wiring with the voltage meter and there is power going to the coil but no spark coming out as put a spark plug in the king lead and earthed it to the car and nothin! But I ordered a new coil from fleabay a Lucas one but the terminals where the live and positive go are shorter and smaller and the king lead connection is different can any one help? im no expert here but had starting issues myself no spark but power to the coil, found in the end it was a failed distributor (hall sensor)

took me a while to get to that point though after coil, dizzy cap + arm, leads swap and voltage checking, wire tracing and replacing wire from coil to ecu

It was really only cus i posted on here i got it sorted

maybe there is something in this modern usb laptop diagnostic stuff

forgot to add the starter seemed to turn the car over a bit faster when the failed distributor was on or maybe it was just mine

Yeah but there's no spark coming from the coil in the first place and that's before it gets to the dizzy , the new coil the bit where u plug the king lead in its like further down the plastic but compared to the one I took of after I compared them if that makes sence? And the terminals were a lot shorter and not as thick so I crushed them with a pliers to make a better connection while I tried to get a spark from the king lead

i think the coil gets an instruction or earth from hall sensor via ecu so i think thats why
so no earth no spark

hall senders are pricey and you have to strip your dizzy to fit them,
which can be awkward, used working dizzy`s are your best bet,
an auction website may have 1 ending soon

Yeah so that would stop the coil from getting a spark as we'll if this sensor was knackerd ? Ok I'll get myself a second hand dizzy but when you install a new dizzy do I need to mark where the bolt is on the old one in case I fuk the timing up?

the coil doesnt get a spark, the coil releases the energy to give the spark i think its all about the coil getting negative earth from the signal generated by the hall sensor via the silver ecu which then fires the coil

fit replacement as original is positioned, marker pen or something
cannot go too wrong as the drive is off centre, check new dizzy has a seal on it
or you will lose oil from the engine, try the part off your mate for peace of mind
an xr3i dizzy no good as its different
