Default What do people think of re-shelling s2 RS turbo??

I'm in a pretty tough situation I have a badly rotten s2, I've managed to find a couple of people to do my welding but there busy for a couple of months. Because I have a whole lot of parts that need replacing its going to be an expensive job. I have a bonus shell which is in much better condition which I only brought to cut the roof off and put on the RS.

I know it's never going to be a genuine RS, which is whats holding me back from making my final decision, as I know a genuine RS is going to be worth so much more in the future.

Keep and fix the RS shell, Put the Bonus roof on it if needed. Money shouldn't be an object to anyone who is an RS owner. If you don't like that these cars need money throwing it at on a regular basis, RS ownership is not for you(Not you in person, Just a saying).

However there's nothing wrong with re-shelling them as long as you don't call it an RS or badge it up as an RS.

The more that get re-shelled means that the genuine ones will rise in price, so that's a bonus for me and others.

Yeah understand exactly what your saying, and that's the reason I haven't made my mind up yet. I think re-shelling it will only be done as a last resort, I will get a couple of prices for all the welding to be done and go from there.

What are the differences between an RS shell and a bonus shell? Or is it just the chassis number to make it the RS?

I re shelled a 1990 Renault 5 GT turbo with a 1995 campus shell, not worth as much as an RS mind you but it was always at the back of my mind it wasn't genuine 😕. It was the cleanest shell going and far better than any GT turbo I could find at the time.

Like other members have said, money shouldn't be an issue over a long period of time. I would personally take my time and have a genuine RS rather than a reshell as a quicker option 👍

Entirely up to you though mate...

I'm shelling mine. Every nut and bolt will be refurbed or new. I'm in Ireland and would not have found a clean s2 shell and my rs was an English car and beyond rotten. My car will be a rs in my mind and will look like a rs in every way.

Not to sure on the differences, wouldn't have thought there is to much.
I think I will just take my time and keep the rs and make it a minter, will be worth more in the long run. I didn't really word it properly at the beginning I don't have an issue with the over all cost its just I guess I'm just a bit eager to get it done. Thanks for your opinion!

Yeh I get what you are saying as that's what I was thinking to start with, but I think I'm going to take my time and save the rs if it's possible. Good luck with yours, hope everything goes well. Cheers

I see that one on ebay doesn't look too bad, think I will get a couple of quotes from a welding shop and go from there, hopefully I can save my rs.

No problem at all mate, you could look at it the other way though... The bonus shell will probably be better than the majority than the RS's left on the road, it will be stronger and last longer.

Might not be worth more but if your keeping it then what does it matter?

How good are you at welding? Because the floor at the right hand side of the drivers seat is easy to cut out 😉

Yeah I kept thinking that at the beginning, if I keep it and it's not genuine it won't matter to much. It will probably be cleaner in the long run and lady longer because the rs's just seem to rot away.

I can't weld at all never done it, wish I could because I would do the whole lot myself.

Ok thanks mate, just nice to hear different peoples opinions as its been giving me a headache what to do I must change my mind every few days.
