Escort RST S2 Breather Mod Help Please
Hi everyone I have a Escort RST running the standard breather system and have heard that you can modify this rather than spending out a lot of money on the Bailey system
The reason I want to do this is because I'm getting a lot of oil in the boost pipes ect
Please leave your comment on what I have to do will be much appreciated

If you have a lot of oil in the boost pipes then it sounds like your breather return to the sump is blocked or you're breathing heavy (worn piston rings).
What power are you running?
EDIT: Skimmed your post and didn't notice your running the standard breather setup, there is no oil drain to sump the hose is for venting crank case pressure to the cam cover so ignore that! lol

Thanks for the reply
Well the piston rings was done last year when I did a small overhaul of the engine
I'm running just shy of 180bhp
What's the best way to solve this problem
Do I need to mod the breather do you think?

The breather has a return to the metering unit. You can block this off at the metering unit and let that pipe breath to atmosphere. BUT it will change the fueling so you will require a setup and tune for it to be 100%
That is cutting corners tho. Really you need a decent bailey oil separator to do the job properly.

Ah great thanks
Do I need to modify any other part of the breather system? Do you think as this is the return that is why I'm getting oil in the boost pipes ect?

could be many reasons why, hence no one can really say without looking.
But removing all the pipes and intercooler, cleaning and changing the breather as above will at least start off fresh so you will be able to figure out easier.
Is there any signs of oil leak or burning around the turbo core?

Great I will get onto that cheers
Nope no signs of leaks round the turbo and it's a brand new turbo as well fitted last year so I will give the breather a change and clean out the pipes and see how I get on I suppose thanks for your help

Yes the breather is lower than the rocker cover is that correct?
And yes there is a valve in the vacuum pipe as well does this all sound ok?

Shouldn't be breathing heavy with only 180bhp, as Jano says clean it all out and see if it stays clear or quickly fills back up again.... Oil can only really come from the breather system to enter your boost pipes (via the metering unit return hose) or maybe the turbo leaking into it's compressor housing (haven't seen this personally).
