Old age and high torque flexing the block I've been told is the reason of the cvh blocks cracking

Yours was stupid hp tho Stuart wasn't it?
Bit of topic but I'm just about to fit a gt28rs ( I'm thinking you don't need a oil restrictor as off the poor oil pressure the cvh has ) just concerned about 100psi on start up.
Any advice would be great for this

It seems the blocks are not as bad as folk make out then and it's unlucky if one cracks on you. ( unless your 300 hp + )
I know they are cracking on lower power on some applications but that could be down to lying outside for winters or not allowing for a proper warm up before holding it at full chatter. Lol. What you think yourself Gary?

That's a lot off boost lol. What power was that kicking out - guessing around 350 mark?

As one of the final words about his I had a chat with a known specialist about this some time, or rather he brought it up as we were discussing alot of things. In his opinion the block cracked was basically down to what many have said, excessive heat cycles. But what makes the 1.6 worse in his opinion are how think the block walls are cast, probably for the weight of the engine. The age/heat will make it brittle and lead to the block cracking as there is not much material there. He did say that the Zetecs are cast differently and even the 1.9 has a thicker walled block. IIRC he was saying that he now converts a no. of CVH engines to run a Zetec bottom end if the block cracks, so I would guess that it is a ZVH...
