Battery is flat so gonna have to check it again tomorrow, but just went out to the car to have a look at the firing order and it seems fine to me!

*edit*

Will try swapping the injectors over tomorrow aswell

When I took the spark plugs out, 1 and 2 had black residue, 3 and 4 were brand spanking new (as if I had just put them in and not started the car)

What would be the easiest and least messy way to empty the current fuel out of the tank? Also once the new fuel is in would it be wise to keep the engine running even though its misfiring to just use up all the fuel already in the system to see if the engine stops misfiring and starts running normally?
I would guess then that either 1 and 2 are at fault or 3 and 4. Was it black sludge or just carbon? Did you alter anything to your car between the last time it ran okay and now? Also have you tried bleeding the injector pipes on the metering head?

Fitted a new water pump and timing belt. it was just carbon not black sludge. I have tried bleeding the injector pipes from the metering head but not removing the actual injectors with the pipes connect and checking to see if fuel comes out of the injectors. Think i'll put some fresh fuel in first before I try that

Could be a overfueling issue. Is there any smoke coming out the exhaust. Try unplugging the metering head and see if it runs any better on idle

Try swapping the plugs over to another cylinder and see if the miss changes ( I think you may have checked this tho)

Also after reading the thread again there is very much a random approach to trying to fix this. So my advice would be to work logically through things as this will give you more chance of finding the problem. Check spark at the end of the ht leads on 1 to 4. Check for air leaks. Check that fuel is spraying out of all of injectors. Check wiring on all sensors, by using wiring diagram and multimeter. Are they new spark plugs? New leads?

Hi all im back with some good and bad news!

Don't know why I didn't check this first as johnny pointed out but fuel wasn't going through 2 of the injectors. Picked up a second hand pair of injectors today and after 30 seconds of fitting them it fired up lovely with no missfire

Had the car running for around 25mins.. engine was warmed up, neighbour walked by and said rev it so I did and I broke something else. Think the turbo has gone as there was quite a bit of white smoke so I gotta take it all apart again tomorrow and find out what the new problem is!

Stripped the engine apart and found that one of the rocker arms bolts sheared out of the cylinder head! The turbo is ok which is good. Going to pick up a new cylinder head and gonna fit it tonight, so gonna start it up tomorrow and everything should be sorted! (Fingers crossed) lol

Hey all, after a few weeks of head scratching I ended up rebuilding a new cylinder head I picked up off ebay, and its running nicely.

The problem was that 1 injector didnt work and the number 3 fuel pipe to the injector was blocked.

I've added the following, because I wanted to make sure I don't have any problems with anything else:

Decent cylinder head with new valve guides and a genuine camshaft
Fresh head gasket
Group A Coil
Brand new genuine distributor
New spark plugs
New Battery
New Fuel filter

Took her around the block today for the first time in over a year and a half!

She's running sweet, going to get the engine setup this week from Jano @ OddKidd.

Only thing is its running rich, so she does smoke on boost a bit. Didn't take it over 20 mph as I shat my load a bit driving it lol but bloody hell I've missed the power!

New battery made a massive difference too.

Anyway today I'm happy! Hopefully will be on road for Ford Fair!
