The S1 box is a bit unique as it has pick ups for the anti roll bar setup. No box will be a direct replacement and loads of fabrication work will be required. Best bet is stick with the S1 box but get it built properly. A CTS box is a tough bugger, mines survived me and that's saying something

www.gearboxman.co.uk

Price varies depending on what you want but a basic refurbed box is about £500 iirc rising from there depending on what you want, shot peened gearset, Quaiffe ATB etc

if that option is too much for you, why not try a ib5 box which is a direct fit and much stronger with bigger bearings added bonus is that the box centralises easily in neutral unlike the bc.

Not an option mate as it doesn't have the pickups for the front ARB setup. The box's casting is completely unique

mines a ib5 box with no problems regarding any pickup. maybe the specialist used a s1 middle casing but it defo has no problems.

It must be IB5 internals in the BC casing as the S1 ARB set up bolts to it. The IB5 does not have the castings for this. and the S1 can't use a normal cradle as found in the S2 without dithcing the ARB setup.

If I'm wrong I'll eat my hat.

That would be an odd thing to do as it's only the bearings that are bigger and they are not what goes

yes it is using bc late front, but all the rest are ib5, like the gearset, double syncro, packed bearings etc..

the 6 speed commonly used (well when people put a 6 speeder into these anyway) is from an focus st170. but then youd want a diff as well which is an extra £5/600 before any fab work is done to make it fit. which is about the same as a rebuild

my advise would be to go for the cts box

does the rs1600i have a casing like that to hold the ARB then?
