Default Zetec turbo water pump hose /alternator fouling

Hi chaps, In the final stages of putting back together a Mk4 rst with zetec turbo, it's been running zetec for around a year and always had a problem of the alternator adjusting arm sitting tight on the water pump hose jubilee clip, it's already rub through a clip once so wondered what you lot have done or if you've had the same problem?
It has a standard samco mk4 hose going to a bigger pipe to fit the pump.
we looked at dropping the alternator bracket down to clear but as weve now fitted the series one roll bar set up, thats out of the question.
At the moment the owner has took the bracket and alternator away to re fab a bracket with the adjuster on the other side.
Are we overlooking a simple fix?

Cheers guys, Gadge.

are you using a fiesta mount or an escort mount?

i found using the fiesta mount gives you the clearance

The fiesta mount does give you more clearance. In the end, I rerouted the hose so that it doesn't follow the std route. I just bought some silicone elbows and joiners etc and made it on the car. If it is a series2 radiator, these are no good as the pipe outlet is angled towards the alternator. The s1 is better as it's straight. Mine is an alloy s2 rad, but with the hose chopped off and rewelded so it points towards the front of the car - this means the hose that slides onto it can be much further away.

Rick.

Ah cool, do you need the fiesta alternator too? We tried spinning the escort casing round but it didn't work out right!

Hi Dave, Hope you are keeping safe in the forces?

He's loving it.. Ran it around for a year or so, then came back in september to sort some more things out.
I've just wired up 8 stack gauges, modded the box sections to take a series one roll bar, fitted a bara box, coilovers all round, removed, had powder coated and re fitted with new polybushes all the rear end suspension parts, painted the block, gearbox, sump etc etc. Loads of stuff.
Also sorted out a few oil leaks. The owner smoothed the manifold off and has done loads of fabrication for bits to look factory.
Just in the final stages now, need to fit a late clutch pedal, rad cooler and pipes then its off to MSD for a fettle with the boost controller for full power!!

There will be a full resto thread when the owner gets settled in his new house and gets other stuff out of the way.

Next year the car is having a full nut and bolt underbody and engine bay resto ( the car is a 40k near on minter anyway!! ) The aim this year was to get it all as he wants it so no more drilling or fettling will be done once painted!! Most things have been powder coated or re sprayed this time round but next time, everything else is getting done such as exhaust manifold and anything else not done this time.

A few sneaky pics...

The car

Manifold powdercoated in chromium silver

Coated Bara box and series one mounts

Series one roll bar and ties rods with rose joints

I'm good Gary. I was away in the Falklands over Christmas & New Year. Did loads of mental things out there.

The first house is doing well. Put myself down for another Buy to Let brand new 3 Bed. Same model of house but a detatched. Will be finished in August.

It shows you how much I spent on the S1 if within two years I can afford to put 60k into property No honestly they are real tears!

However I do keep looking at 06/07 plate Audi RS4's in Phantom Black and wondering whether I should have bought another house or a proper car straight out of the factory.

Still with the mrs. Been on some nice holidays too. It's so much nicer without all the hassle of cars. Hell I don't even own one and haven't since you broke the S1 into bits

My posting out here finishes in December so I am looking at coming back to the UK. Hopefully near the mrs in Wellingborough as that's where she lives and the houses are. Fancy a bit of a normal life for a while.

I trust you and the family are keeping well. Hope the mrs hasn't been tasking you too many jobs?

I know the car will be mental with your attention to detail

i had this issue on my na zetec in mk4, just put up with it then went rs2k and had to mod the bracket for thats and it wasnt a problem.
then i zetec'd my winter shitter mk4 and just used the alt bracket that was allready on the cvh, thats when it got interesting. my now rs2k mk4 is g reg and uses the correct throttle cable + pedal for a zetec, the shitter is f reg and had the right alt mount for no clearance or adjusting issues just put a 2mm washer on rst alternator behind a zetec pulley but wrong throttle cable.
