get a miltimeter on the batterytwhen its running iirc 14 or so volts should be geing into the battery. if this looks ok its the battery, if theres no volts going in, or very little the alternator could be dying.

i would say its more a problem with the engine not firing /starting and flattening the battery than the other way around conor ,have you checked for a spark ,fuel etc?

I see what you mean but if i get a jump start from somone it fires up first time no problem or if i put it on charge it fires up straight away first times but then it just all of a suddon just wont start again.

your new battery could be a dud conor [can you exchange the battery],unless you have a short and its draining the battery even when the car is switched off,

if the alternator was fucked wouldnt the lights and electrics slowly fade whilst it was running until the batteries drained? if it carrys on running with a jump on a flat battery i reckon the alternators ok.

that would only be assuming that he done it in the dark an u should have no dash lights on when the engine is running bar the handbrake if it is up, also the engine should still run off the altinator only, u should be able to disconnect a battery while the engine is running without it stalling
