Default Handbrake light

Bit odd, if I apply my brakes at anything over 40mph the handbrake light comes on.
I always through the handbrake light was just a switch off of the old drift lever?

any help would be great.

thanks.

On the subject of brakes, mines a 90spec with ABS. Does the ABS have to be operational for he MOT? My ABS light warning light is not on ive linked it out. During an MOT the car would never lock up to prove the ABS isnt working so they would never know? am i right?

Yeah if the abs is removed the light has to be out and stay out. My MOT man let it slide first time, but said I need to get the bulb out.

More likely to be corroded terminals inside the rubber plug onto the cap. These get muck inside and will go green when corroded. Give them a good clean out.

If you ABS light is on then it will probably be a snapped/ broken ABS belt or a microswitch has come out of the housing. There is a topic in here this week/ last week about it.
Don't just take the bulb out as a bodge job, get it fixed or remove the ABS system altogether. Neither are difficult to do.

Yeah thats exactly whats happend the micro switch has came out of the housing. It will get fixed, the reason i asked is i have other jobs to do before the MOT and wondering if i can move this job further down my long "job to do" list.

Takes 5 mins to do mate - definately quicker than removing the bulb. The microswitch just pushes back into the housing and should stay in place. I put some silicon around the edge to hold it more firmly to stop it popping out again. Easy fix.

Yes, the belt pushes the microswitch, making the connection. If the belt breaks then the m/s is released inside the housing & bringing the lights on.

rs shawn cheers for the link to the diagam, looks a basic system. Looks like my problem is the micro switch hanging out as the belts are present and correct.

Chopshop: sorry for the hi jack of the link

Rs Shawn :took the plug off of the cap and gave it a bit of a clean up and its stopped the light from interupting my driving, so cheers for the advice on that one. Did have me miffed with the brakefluid at max.

smcnairn: no worries man, this way two problems have been hopefully solved by the helpful people of passionford.
