Default 60mm rear lowering springs

ok, all those who want to preach about how much to lower an ERST need not apply please

my car just isnt going to sit low enough on 40mm springs with the back end stripped out, other than the fuel tank theres nothing to go in the back end to drag it down, so its going to remain monster truck arch clearance, and quite frankly looks have taken over from comfort in my mind

so, i need to source a set of 60mm rear springs. only issue being i either cant find any, or can only find a full set, and i dont need fronts cos i have coilovers

anybody got anything knocking about to help me out? dont make me resort to the angle grinder and anger all the bandwagon jumpers haha!!

almost seems a shame to chop a coil out of brand new 40mm springs though, they all shiny n nice

plus i need to get through an MOT, and a spring randomly falling out is never a good impression to make

iv got koni shocks on the rear, just not happy with the 40mm drop springs i bought new and fitted. the front can be wound down to whatever suits cos its a coilover set up, but i wimped out on coilovers all round due to panic over seam welding the rear n then wheel clearance etc

if u change ur mind on the spring swap, let me kno

I'm pretty sure i've got a set of -60mm springs....

I got given a box with random set and pairs of springs from different kits.

The lowest ones were purple, but i only used the front ones from that set for some reason, and rears from a different colour set, the front was damn low, so i'm assuming they are -60mm ones.

The car is gone now, so i've just got the rear springs left

Do you know what the the measurement would be?

I'll see if i can dig them out....

Mines on 30mm Spax kit and completely stripped ou and sits with the back slightly higher than the front and it drives quite well with a fairly neutral feel (understeer/oversteer). Doesn't look like a 4x4 at the back either.

cut springs dont fail the MOT if they dont fall out
when i was a silly boy I had 60MM springs with a extra coil lopped off,the rear springs would just fall out!zip tie thru the hole,MOT pass!
I dont recommend it tho

It totally depends on the make. Some folks 25mm are so different to others. Prime example above, the red one is lowered 5mm LESS than the black one yet looks about about 20mm lower!? I think they just stick any old pish on the box. My mates old RST was only 25mm springs yet it was so low it could hardly fit on the rollers..?

My last RST was lowered 60mm and I had no problems with the handling, even with the 18's! God! 18's!! Death to the infidel!

My black one has no interior in it though and iirc T28's still had carpet, back seats, spare wheel, etc. Interior is heavy stuff

ok, for the record, i did say no preaching about how much to lower them, cos its the worlds biggest bag of worms and gets nowhere

i just think the back of mine is gna be sitting too high...

all thats left weight wise for the rear end is a rear screen and a fuel tank, iv already dropped my spare wheel in. i cant see it dropping enough with a tank full of fuel, so im just not going to be happy with the look of it.

different strokes for different folks at the end of the day. i like my car sitting low, so it needs to go that little bit lower

hopefully somebody will have a set knocking about though fingers crossed

exactly! lol

im beginning to wonder whether or not these spax springs would ever in reality be a 40mm drop, they just dnt seem low enough at all!!

obviously the front has dropped since that pic cos of the engine going in, plus iv got about 2 inches of travel left before bottoming out the coilover, so front is fine.

does anybody know what the deal is with 60mm only seemingly available for an XR3i? because i may have to go that route, but dont wana find out an xr3i sits 20mm higher as standard and i end up with another set of 40mm springs lol

a standard xr3i will be higher than a standard rst if its the same as fiestas. as the xr2i is 20mm higher than a fiesta rst, so wont be any different if you get 40mm rst ones or 60mm xr ones.

good luck with the hunt, if all fails, grinder and zip ties are your friends

edited to say: love the colour of your rs, is it a dark metalic blue?

spax sell 2 sets depending on what its going on.
I believe (the numbers may not be strictly accurate) that they sell 35mm drop and 60mm drop for the xr3i but only a 35mm drop for the turbo. however they take their measurements based on a series one turbo which is 25mm lower than a standard escort. so the 60mm springs are the same as the turbo 35mm springs, based on -25mm to start with, -35mm lower again equals -60mm lower than a standard escort. I have these on my mk3 and with 17s on can just squeeze 2fingers between wheel and arch. if i load the car i cant get anything underneath. Im considering swapping to 35mm 3i springs as its rubbing my rear tyres away when loaded.

Mate thats looking sweet, i think you'll find with glass in it, and a drive to settle the suspension and it will sit a lot lower than it does not, i had an avo -40mm and that was a bit to low for me tbh but each to there own etc

wow, this is a bit of a blast from the past lol

iv since got hold of a set of 60mm springs, it was still too high, so took the grinder to them, and even with 2 coils out its only just about where i want it

obviously i still have my as new condition springs, and the car now has windows n that, but im thinking its still going to need angle grinder action to get it sitting nice

regardless, i need to get my finger out n finish the car 1st, rear ride height is the least of my worries! lol

-60 and a few coils that must be on the deck mate! I would definitely drive it around a bit before removing any more coils.

i can still get a finger or 2 between the tyre n the arch, stil has no kit on it yet tho, so that may make it look lower admittedly, but still, nowhere near on the deck

it was just an experiment tho, just a pair of old springs to cut and check before going mad n buying new springs or anythin, wudnt drive on these as they just fall out as soon as the back of the car is jacked up slightly

lol, honestly tho, all the kits i have fitted took 5/10 miles of normal driving (ie, speed bumps down my way) until they were at their proper height, the difference was like 20mm before drive and after.
