Bouncy speedo needle...
Hi people, over the past week or so my speedo needle has started bouncing around, its worse as you accelerate especially above about 90.. Does anybody know what causes this, or more to the point how to fix it as it's driving me mad ? Are they electronic or cable driven ?
Cheers in advance,
Rich

its driven by cable,if you look at the firewall behind the engine you will see it coming through to the left of engine just above turbo h/shield,it then runs round back of engine and down ,i should check to see its not kinked or the drive gear could be getting worn

had a little play last night and if you build the speed up gradually the speedo reads correct but if you hammer it through the gears the speedo cant keep up and reads slower than you are going... gonna try a new cable and if that dont work just watch the road angel instead...

Just found this thread. Mine also jumps a bit, but only below 20 mph. I cant see anything kinked so think ill change the cable.
Anyone know how to take the clocks out? Will I have to remove the steering wheel and airbag?

S1rst you have to etract steering wheel as much as it will go. Remove two screws and tear cloks sourround out - iif you try to do it gently you'll brake something
Then there are 4 screws that hold the clock - then it's best to have one prson puch the cable to the inside of the car from under the bonnet and toher prson to maneuvre the clocks out. Cable disengages by pushing plastic thing on it and taking it out. Job done

Thanks for that. Do i actually have to remove the airbag and steering wheel or will i be able to get the clocks out without removing it completly?? I really havnt got a clue on how to disconnect/remove the airbag without it going off in my face!?!?!
Not really a job that id be very confident with to be honest.

As I tried to write (I might have not expressed myself clearly enough) you justhave to retract steering wheel on adjuster as much as possible, nothing to remove. I've done this at least 4 times and didn't have many problems. The only big problem is to take the clocks plastic cover without breaking it (as Damo wrote it will eventually brake some time anyway). Other problem is to get to cable realese, especially if you don't have someone to push the cable through firewall. Remember to be very very gentle - clocks are easy to damage.

So you mean undo the nut, and pop the steering wheel off as far as it will go on the thread, so ill have enough room to get the clocks out? Will I be able to do this with the airbag still on and active?
