Uprated Fuel Pump
Hi Guys
I'm in the process of rebuilding a large turbo escort and although at the moment it is running standard power at some stage I would like to take it to 330BHP. As it is up in the air at the moment I thought i'd uprate the fuel pump, but everyone i've spoke to has told me something different? The prices vary from £75 to about £300. All I want is a replacement pump that will deliver enough fuel for my future conversion!

Hi
I have a GGR1012 uprated pump from Graham Goode, which was bought in April this year, used for one race event only, it is 25Km old. I must now install a FT3 tank so this fuel pump is for sale. I would also like to sell the original Escort Cosworth tank.
regards
Kenny.

you do really, at best any large turbo is over 11 years old and the std pump is flat out when new running stage 1, with wear and age it just wont be able to cope and for the sake of 120 quid inc vat and delivery for the correct walbro intank direct replacement one which will flow 255 litres per hour at high pressure, it just not worth the risk IMO,

agreed, I dont know anyone who has increased the power, increased fuel consumption and NOT improved the flow rate of the fuel pump.
I'm not an engine specialist, however the guys who improved my engine, increased the torque to 450Nm (T28 turbo) by increasing the fuel available (high flow) but kept the pressure low at 3,5 - 3.7bar. (There were other mods to the engine, the fuel pump was just one item).

over 300bhp on the Escort the fuel pump MUST be upgraded!! any serious tuner will tell you that the AC delco genuine pump isn't good.
The point is @ this power the boost is about 1.6b in overboost and 1.4 after matched with 803's (if you don't have this setup you can't have more than 300bhp) and since the fuel regulator has a 1:1 ratio to the boost pressure the fuel pump will be out of its possibilities!!
if you are juste running 330 bhp a simple Walbro will be enough (no modification of the fuel pump assembly. If you want more power (or better reliability) you should use a Bosch item (003 or 023) wich requiered some modification on the tank plate.
If you run your engine lean @ high boost because of the poor genuine pump you'll melt a piston and engine rebuilt will cost U much more than a new pump
Now it's your choice...

Mine packed up 2 weeks back so i fitted an uprated Bosch pump. Got it from Mike Rainbird. He was a good few quid cheaper than all the traders in the Ford mags. Had it fairly quick too. Check your straps before you drop the tank, Chances are they are rotten. Auto specialists (01375850062) do stainless ones for £50.
