My thoughts on Harvey Gibbs engine
As some of you may know, Harvey Gibbs built me a new engine and turbo from scratch (431 bhp) and thought i would air my opinion.
After a quick oil and filter change, i was ready to unleash some power and more so, wondered what i had got for my money and for my patience as being without the car for 3 months when i had just bought it was a killer as some of us well know.
I took the car out (on my private test track) to see what all the fuss was about and bloody hell i wasnt disappointed !!! It pulled so hard and so quickly that my stereo flew out, CD's everywhere, i even think i saw a fighter jet pilot give me the nod !
Although a little laggy low down, about 3000 rpm it starts to wake up, and boy does it wake up with the hump, it literally tried to lift the front wheels off the road, it calms down a 'little' at about 5000 rpm and i was a very happy chappy, then at 5500 rpm, it again started to take off and leave me with the biggest grin possible as some poor chap in an Audi RS4 found out (he was invited to my test track obviously)
Now after owning a few Evo 6's with 360 bhp, Japanese technology, active yaw control and other fancy gimmicks, i thought that i would find it hard to like the Cossie as much, how wrong i was.
Although the steering in the Escort leaves a lot to be desired and i found myself hoping and praying it would kind of go in the direction i wanted it to under full throttle, the fun factor was so much more than the Evo, not only that, it is better on fuel too which pleasantly surprised me.
I know a few from here who are / were contemplating an Evo instead of their Cossie, well, i would say think twice about it, for reliability the Evo wins hands down of course, newer car etc etc, but for fun, the Cossie is my personal choice.
So big thanks to Harvey Gibbs for the excellent build and set up and those who are either thinking of having a rebuild done by him with a few added extras, you will NOT be disappointed
