URGENT Help please : Gearstick removal !
Can anyone point me in the right direction please ? Got a small turbo Escos and the lift selector for reverse gear has broken. Needless to say i can't select reverse gear !
Got a new gearstick but can i hell reach the pin at the bottom to remove the gearstick as a whole. I've spent the best part of 3 hours underneath it trying to remove the pinch bolt that holds it in !
I've dropped the gearbox mount, undone the two cradle bolts that straddle the box but can't get in to the (well it appears to look like) a 13mm nut on the pin.
Please tell me i don't have to remove the gearbox just to change the gearstick
Any pointers please would be very much appreciated Car's off the road until i sort this

Yep remove the barrel pin at the base of the lever from inside the car!
You should be able to knock it out a bit and then grab the other end with some grips to remove it

You nuggart, the gearlever is removed from INSIDE the car, so all that effort under the car has been a complete and utter waste of time .
My pin vibrated out and it took 15mins to repair with a nut and bolt ready for the next session at Snetterton .
The plastic surround has to be lifted up, so requires the stereo out...

The console has been removed completely, but there is still a cradle that sits over the top of the 'box (that's bolted to the box and holds the gearstick in place) that you can't get your fingers under to undo the bolt Time for a photo i think
Thanks for the advice guys

Mike, Spadge, John,
Please have a look at this photo of the offending item LOL
The cradle won't fit through that damn hole lol so the only way to undo the nut is to do it insitu. Even Edward SpackyHands couldn't get his fingers down there, with a spanner ! There must be a knack to this as i presume it's the same idea when fitting a Quickshift kit ?
Cheers

You don't need to put the ball and everything at the base of that new lever in with it!
Just remove the roller pin (not the one that goes up and down!) and pull the lever from the ball end!!!

I bought a B&M quickshift so we have the same problem in such way!
I realise that to remove the complete lever U will have to remove the box.. cause you can't access the clip to remove the axis which link the lever to the shift rod on the box...(which goes through the eye that u see on the lever's bottom)
As I want to upgrade my clutch with AP stuff it's juste a question of time for me but you may find easier to follow Spage's advice to replace the top part of the lever only.
Try to hold the base and kind of unscrew the lever to remove it but take care of not bend the linkage...

Dave, it's a 13mm nut on the end of the bottom pin. If it was a circlip i would probably have been able to pop it off, but with the nut, i couldn't get a spanner in
Cheers everyone sorted now, following a quick call to Spadge ! Left the bottom pin, and knuckle in and just removed the roller pin and hey presto, slid the top of the stick off (well, it didn't exactly 'slide' off), but a pair of mole grips and a lump hammer sorted it PMSL. Glad i didn't need to get that pin out, it's an absolute twat to do by all accounts.
Thanks everyone for their help here, especially Spadge for the phone call and explanation
