Default My Cossie, how quick ?

Hello Folks,

Just in the process of sorting my Cossie out, at the moment, the engine is with Harvey Gibbs being full sorted and treated to a host of new goodies, having a complete engine done from scratch, new turbo, greys, anti lag, launch control, all the right bits but what im wondering is, how quick is this thing going to be, coming from an Evo 6 with 360 bhp and a 1/4 mile time of 12.8, is the Cossie going to be quicker, i think it will be mapped to about 430 bhp.

Thanks
Rich

i think theres a clue there mate.

Evo = 360bhp
Cossy = 430 bhp.

would think so...lol

I think anything running on greys and over 400 bhp will be like s**t of a shovel so to speak.....How are you having the Launch control set up, Not sure if you know of LOONEY (efi) performance ford cover car this month, has launch control and has it set up via the air bag sensor.

You would suprised how quickly those Evos go, put it this way, i had a play with a 350 bhp Safh and tbh, it was not even close, hence my worry. My box has been uprated only last year so SHOULD hold out.

Yes, i know Efe, i speak to him fairly regulary, Harvey Gibbs / Ahmed Bajoo are doing all setting up but have had a disagreement with him so it looks like it may not go ahead now, so i could be after an engine and turbo etc !!!!

Cheers

Its being done by Harvey Gibbs, but at the moment, he isnt flavour of the month for reasons i wont go into. I dont for a second doubt his work though.

And why is it that most Cossies seem to get very bad 1/4 mile times !!

Thats an impressive time, my gearbox has been uprated so it should with stand the power.
Harvey is doing a 430 bhp spec for me, T34 modded, cams, ported and polished head, lightened and balanced everything, anti lag, launch control, grey injectors, air / boost controller with 12 settings, verniers, new paddle clutch, lightened flywheel, wrc gasket, the usual sort of things, so in theory, it should be a flier

Richie...............I'm curious what made you go to an escort cosworth from an Evo 6??
I've recently sold my esc cos, and a mate has just bought an evo 6.I am amazed at what a capable car the evo 6 is 300 bhp on tap with virtually no lag, pin sharp handling with amazing brakes (Brembo)............it's got me thinking now!

I belive the last speck ones are about 1400k with the added door bars ect on them.
I run blues as i didnt want greys as the rs owners club will not cover you unless you have had greys befor and i havent, also that is what scs run on there 400 /400 convershions unless you have the roller turbo. cheers dunc

Default Cossy Gearbox

Hi Guys,

I see all of you have some uprated gearbox. I have a Mountune built 550hp escort that has had the upgraded quaife gearset but this has allready expired.
I spoke to Julian Godfrey and he has recommended a 7 speed FFD but it is rather expensive .
What alternatives do i have for 600hp and hard launches?
It is very difficult doing it from over here in South Africa so your help will be apreciated.

Hi mate,

Well, i have had 2 Evo 6's now and since i was a lad, i have always wanted an Escort Cossie. So i bought one and sold my Evo. The Evo is a great car, dont get me wrong, it has all the toys, climate, etc etc and yes they do handle, well, i would say they feel a little loose around some corners, it depends on how hard you want the AYC to work i suppose, but as its only a 2nd car for me, it can sit in the garage and hold its price for me, even though a good low mileage Evo still hold out well. The brakes are 'ok' they tend to have cooling problems making them squeal a hell of a lot, 200 miles to a tank of Optimax, 500 per year more to insure than my Cos and servicing is every 4500 miles but all in all, i just fancied a change, and boy what a mistake !!! lol, but i know if i bought a ford it would go wrong, but not quite to the extent that it did

12.8 is dog slow for a 360bhp 4wd .

I did a 12.892 @ 111mph with 343bhp in a shonky 2wd Sapphire , so Cossies are quick if you can drive them .

400bhp in an Escort will see 12.5s quarters all day long (providing clutch and gearbox are up to it).

i did the same, went from a 4x4 saph to an evo 6 gsr, then back to a large turbo escos, the evo admitidly got me banned after 9 years of clean licence an no claims - DOH!! the esort has more presence and is undoubltly the rarer car now, when i sold my 6 2 years ago , i had a few grand chang eleft over after buying the escort, NOW the same evos are bringing about the same if not less than what i paid for my escort - in another 5 years the esodrt will still be worth money and the 6's will be like scoobys are now, glad i had one though and yes, the handling and pickup is awesome, i was running the 350 ralliart conversion on mine at you can take the 200 miles to a tank of fuel and cut in in half LITERALLY, you had to plan where you were going to make sure you went by optimax stations on route

Hi, im glad i've spotted this thread, was thinking of swapping the cos for an evo 6.... but might be thinking again after reading some of these comments.. My cos is making 360bhp at the mo, would it be more fun to spend a few more quid on it and get it to 400 or buy a modded evo 6 ?
