Default Gear selection problem

I'm looking at an Escort cosie which has a a quick shift on the standard (i think)gearbox and a AP- Fast Road Clutch.

I took it for a test drive and although the clutch felt fine the gearbox was really notchy & difficult to change gear. However less so if I was alot more forceful whn I changed gear. It made no crunch noises or grinding and it didn't jump out of gear.

So this notchiness, is it because of the quick shifter or is there something else wrong? Maybe just a change of oil ? Any other ideas ?

Thx

Id go with clutch cable ... most common prob with the box's is syncro between 3rd and 4th, ie on fast up and down changes between these gears, buggered ones crunch
