Default what boost are you running on your small turbo escort

I was just wondering out of interest what boost other owners of modded small turbo Escort Cosworth were running?I have had a a couple of suggestions from members in here(thanx..u know who you are ).At the moment i have figures from 16psi up to 20 psi, so at the moment im a bit undecided as what to set mine at.Before i changed my turbo i didn't know what my old boost settings were(crap ford boost guage), but the needle went right off the ford guage and stayed there(the car had this conversion from nearly new)...and the car never missed a beat and it did long runs flat out...so i guess the fueling was o.k.My car has the usual t28 mods:Chip/induction kit/Collins bolt on turbo dumpvalve/de cat mongoose stainless/Hybrid and uprated fuel pump.Also..anyone know a good tuner who knows these cars very well and can set them up in the North London or Hertfordshire area ?

Thanx in adavnce for any advice or comments

Cheers

Rob

hallo all

my cossie goes off the scale everytime I drive it. ok I will buy a better boost gauge.
Where is the best place to buy that 60mm HKS one, it looks good.

the engine has been modded,
290ps, 450Nm torque.
It uses approx 1 Ltr of fuel every 2 Km, who counting. I just want more power.
The car is only used for hillclimbs 2 - 4km each run. At the moment I get 4 wheels spinning in the wet, but I need more power for the dry. (and the wet, its fun).

all you guys know about actuators and the diff between -31 and -34. I want as much boost as soon as possible (3000) lasting right up to 6000rpm.

My car has bigger fuel pump, modded turbo with 360 deg bearing, fuel pressure reg, WRC head gasket, stud and nut kit, sachs clutch, Leda coilovers, 575Lbs front, 500Lbs rear. 330 AP 4 pots up front with the fronts on the rear, Hyd Handbrake. mongoose. rear box out HJS kat in.

The rules say I must keep original small turbo. whats possible power wise. I don't need 10000 mile reliability.
Come on you guys give me help.

kenny.

PS I drove an SBD 16V Vauxhall for 5 years, 3000 - 7750 rpm. only 220ps but it was nippy. Fords, ie turbos are new to me.

Use a larger compressor wheel in the turbo to produce more boost, and get the turbine wheel blades 'cut-back' to improve response.
I sell the HKS gauges and LHD pillar mounts
You should try to use a less poundage spring on the rear of your coilovers, maybe an eibach 350lb one. This will enable your car to 'squat' on launching and improve grip!!!
500lbs on an Escort is good for track, but not for accelleration.
-31 & -34 are part numbers relating to rod length and -34 was the T34 turbo actuator. A -31 will do you fine!!!
Have you tried also to blank of the original BOV in the turbo???
It might help

Hi

Thanks for reply.
What is the cost of the 60 mm HKS boost gauge. It would be fitted in the middle of the dash somewhere, not on the upright. I have a rollcage fitted so the upright is not accessable.
I would be interested to improve the turbo. what is possible? normal exhaust side, RS 500 compressor wheel the other side? I checked the rules, it would be allowed. The next question is, what about the current software piggy backed on the current EECIV?

I dont believe there is any mods to the BOV. Last year I got a fair bit of backfiring changing from 2nd to 3rd, I put it down to either running with too little fuel or spark plug gap too wide. (0,8mm).

(with the Leda coilovers fitted the car sits much higher. The first race is in 4 weeks so I will find out what the handling is like. By the way although its hillclimb, its held on normal tarmac 2 lane roads, all closed for two days).

Cheers
Kenny.

i have just fitted new hybrid turbo to my t28 escort cos and was told the blade are already cut back as standard and you cannot get a bigger compresor wheel or housing than what is fitted

You can cut the blades back more, and there is a bigger comp wheel you can install into the std housing, with a small amount of machining!!

Kenny with 290ps surely your car already has some form of piggy back ECU???

The gauges HKS are 60mm black or white @ £115

Cossiemad

The ECU has a piggyback module from Suhe Motorsport in Germany.

290ps, however 450Nm of torque.

I would be interested in the 60mm white gauge,
how much to post to Dresden?
is it available now?
does it come with any other bits, ie fitting kit?
discount?? if I advertise your name on my car?

serious question. can I sqeeze out more than 300ps from this set up, (small turbo, standard injectors), more important, can I sqeeze out more torque, up to 500Nm.

kenny.

I HAVE A MODIFIED COLLINS MOTORSPORT PIGGYBACK ECU WITH NO BOOST LIMITER OR REV LIMITER.

A SMALL GAUGE SHOULD COST NO MORE THAN £20 TO SHIP TO GERMANY
is it available now? YES
does it come with any other bits, ie fitting kit? IT COMES WITH EVERYTHING TO FIT
discount?? SHIPPING IS THE KILLER AND I'D LOVE TO SELL IT CHEAPER BUT CURRENTLY THIS IS THE PRICE. I CAN'T GET ENOUGH GAUGES USUALLY AND HAVE NO PROBLEM SELLING THEM AT NORMAL RRP OF £140
if I advertise your name on my car? COOL, I SEND YOU SOME STICKERS

WITHOUT CHANGING TO A T34 TURBO, THE CHANCES OF GETTING 500nm IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE (369lbft). WITH CAMS I RUN 303BHP AND 405nm OF TORQUE BUT THIS CAUSES FLAT SPOT AT LOW REVS.
THE ONLY OPTION FOR YOU IS TO GET YOU AND YOUR CAR OVER HERE AND STICK A UNICHIP (MAPPABLE) ON TO CREATE THE PERFECT BALANCE, RUNNING ALONG SIDE THE SUHE ECU
