Homologation model help please.
Hi all, I havent used this site for a few years as Ive been out the Ford scene for sum time. Probably a rather unusual request but Im after your opinions on value of the homologation model. The reason I ask (and before anyone says I havent come on here to slag a car off or the owner) is that I had the misfortune to write a customers car off. It was completely out of my hands and the vehicle was not being driven stupidly either. The car was a 92 K mallard Green done about 98k. It had been resprayed and the leather interior was showing signs of obvious wear. Underneath the sill to floor area were rusted quite heavily and outer sills had already been repaired. The car was advertised last summer for 14.5k
My Insurance company offered 11K he declined. Then offered 17K less 500 for excess. He accepted. Personally I think that is more than reasonable offer and in my eyes I would say it was a 12.5k car, homoloagation or not. I have owned an escort cosworth so am not clueless as to there value. I know a lot of people will say that this is the one to have though. He is now asking me for the 500 for the excess. I am going to see if my solicitor who is chasing the other party for injuries I sustained, to see if he is willing to chase up this extra cost. Which I will give to him. If they wont cough up am I wrong in not offering? Hes told me the RS owners club have valued it at 22 - 24k which I find amazing for a car of this condition. Or has being out the scene for 5 years really put me out of touch?
Sorry if I have waffled on but what I really want to know is am I wrong in not giving him the 500 as I really think hes had more than enough.
Thanks for anyone who replies, I understand that many may not. I hope I dont come across arogant In any way, I just dont want to be ripped off, nor rip him off. Many Thanks Tim

This is my old one that I sold a couple of years ago. No. 56 off the production line so was a homolagation model. Sold it for Ł11700 and it was in near mint condition. Underneath was like new and had never been welded.

an homologation model should have the water-injection and the water bag primed.
give me the last 7 characters of your vin and then we´ll see when the car exactly were built.
i have a good cosworth-book at home and maybe i can find some information about in it.
homologation models should be produced maximum until september 1992.

Homologation models are not worth any more than the other models, the only difference as said above is the water injection bag and pumps under the rear seat. He has certainly got more than the current re sell value so I would tell him to shove his 500 where the sun don't shine.

PassionFord Post Whore!!
When was the car last valued by the RSOC and by who?
As registrars the valuations we give are what the replacement cost of the car is, not as what most people may think the car is worth themselves.
The valuations are very strict as it is an agreed value for the insurance company concerned and have to be done every 2 years.
As Dave has said contact Mark as he will have all files for all valuations done for Escort Cosworth models, he is very helpful to contact

So less than a year ago it was forsale at Ł8-10K less than its "worth".... If I were the owner I'd be taking my Ł16500 and running away laughing...
Like has been said ANY car valued by RSOC has to be done every 2 years and you get an official form from them with the valuation on it.

Many thanks for all your replies to this thread. At the moment it has all died down and haven't heard anything but will hear in mind asking the registrar if he remembers valuing it and I have the reg number, so won't be hard to find for him.
