An 8k escos that 'just' needs a head putting back on and is otherwise all good......was never gonna be that simple in fairness, see loads advertised like that with minor jobs needed and it never seems to be the case does it
I'm sure someone will recognise it though

i owned the car, i brought it in gwo from dundee but when i got it off the truck the next day & went 2 use it it was fooked

turbo was fooked & had a strange knock from engine & inner sills were shagged & driver door shut had a hole in it

i stripped out the engine, fully rebuilt the bottom end & powdercoated all the bits candy blue, fitted vaious bits it required (hoses etc) alloy radiator

there didnt appaear much wrong with the bottom end, 1 piston was tight on the gudgen pin so had all 4 replaced, crank regroud, new shells, oilpump cleaned/inspected etc....

i then fitted the engine back into the car, rebuilt the t3 hybrid turbo & a mate of mine stripped all the plug of the engine loom & we cleeved it in some nice wraping.....

i then went to start it & it wouldnt start, after a few hrs of messing about it was 1 of the wires in the crank sensor plug had came out.

it then ran, with no smoke but still had a knock?????
ide had enough so ebay it was (last year sometime)
while on ebay i stripped the camshafts out to find both camshafts badly scored & all the jurnels in the head shagged & it was sold in bits like that.....

1st thing i would do is pull the exhaust camshaft out & check the head/cams have been replaced, if not urll need a head & 2 cams

2ndly ide ditch the fancy engine loom & buy a std after market one as this was more hassle then it was worth & neva ran rite after it was fitted, had a blig flat spot if i remeber rite from low revs

after that set it up, do the sills & door shut & it aint a bad motor

its a genuine cossie shell & is as stated on log book

could be a nice 1 but ide swapped it for my mk3 escort cossie that i was 99% through building & only swapped as i wanted a car that didnt require any work, after i threw 1k into this & another 3 weeks time it was time for it 2 go

i also spent hrs t-cutting the whole car as some numpty had repainted the engine bay & not masked the car up so the whole car was coverd in overspray!!! thast why it looks miny mint lol
bumper mounts were broken so fixed them etc......

i have various pics of the work i completed if any use to you???

pics in no particular order

i was told it was owned by the durham rsoc chairman altho i did smell a bit of billy bull shit when i was told that, big spec rs 500 cooler grey injectors low comp bd cams etc, never got it running right and too much body work and welding needed, my bros a panel beater / sprayer and he said it was a lot of work so got rid preety quick, changed hands more times than i care to remember in the last 18 months, gets brought messed with and flogged on i got it from yorkshire, then came to me in the midlands, then up to dundee, back down to the north east i think then sout coast then back to your mate in aylesbury, its a bit of a plum best to bare shell rebuild it and get a good engine back in it or break it up sad as it is to say

but just my 2 pence worth

not that much to do really but when you add up the cost to do it....might aswel buy one thats done...unless you want a project or have not got the money to buy a better one.

Personally i think it'll be a good car...but only for the right person, most likely someone in the auto trade that has access to parts and their own workshop, or beg borrow steal favours from known painters welders at mates rates etc, at 8k for that and say an "in the trade" person spent 5k on rebuilding i think you could have a better spec'd escos than some of the ones out there floating around the 12-14k sale price

I saw this car at an auction in Hull a few years ago.

It had no fuel tank at the time and someone had commented it had been searched for drugs ?

I went with a view to bid on it but the condition put me off and it sold for £6k.

Someone on the Escosforum owned it recently, worth a search on there

its threads like that kill ppl cars when trying to sell them.. i used to own this car and its not a "rotten pile of shite" the cars problems is that it has had a drivers quarter panel and it was a poor job thats why the sill has gone on that side and the arch is rusting.... i spoke to the current owner on the phone last week and he is a welder and has put a full outter sill and patched in the inner and had the car painted! the engine was rebuilt but obv the wrong main bearings were used and the bottom end has now gone.... i think this is a bargain for someone a rare big turbo imperial blue car!

this is nowhere near as bad as it seems, i owned it last year & done a few bits 2 it.
i fitted new shells etc.. into the engine & they were the correct ones but by reading the advert "oil light flickering on" ide say the oil pump has failed.

it needed work but the seller seems to have done everything & all it wants is an engine/build

ive offerd him a deal on my saff cosowrth as a p/x for the car back & am awaiting a reply

engine is low comp thats in it
