Default escort cossie fuse box

Can anyone help, i have large turbo escort cosworth (94) the problem is with the lights, when i turn them on to main beam the fuse box makes a funny buzzing noise and the passenger side high beam comes on, ive been told it is probably the fuse box, does anyone know if these can be repaired or is it a main dealer jobfo a new one, been quoted £243 from ford for a new box. cheers smiffyrst

sorry to be the bearer of bad news mate but you cant repair them, you'll deffinately need a new one, I had to put one in mine about 2 years ago and the previous owner put one in too......they are a very common fault on escorts

I kinda agree with Scott. If it hasnt ben changed it is more than likely te fusebox, they can actually be stripped and all the dry joints re soldered but it aint really worth it TBH... I would suggest you can get a fuse box for less than that mate... where bouts are you??

I bought a new one for mine was less than 200... tht is with lecky roof, without the roof they are cheaper, easy to fit too, ten minute job really.

all you have to be sure is the 3 digit letter code printed on the box in the corner if you drop it down is the same on the new one... what you need to look for it will be BBB BBA BAB ABB blah blah along those lines.

Have you tried taking the main beam relay out??

also, if you can try a light switch unit ( the bit on the column) first as these are also a common fault (about 60 quid).

HTH
