whats an escort cosworth like to drive?
i have read people slate escort cosworths for the way they drive and handle.but most likely these folk have never driven 1 and are taking someone elses view as gospel.
im thinking about buying 1 in the future but before i start getting excited and start showing the wife pics of them to get her on side i want to know what they are like to drive.
i have had 2wd and 4x4 sapphires before and a mk5 rs2000.i would say the rs2000 was a far better driving and handling car than the sierra.
the sierra cosworth was an everyday sierra which the cosworth engine was built to go in.the escort was made for the engine which is surely a better starting point.
also, whats the hardest to find colours in order?grey/aubergine/black/mallard/imperial/petrol/red/white.is that about right?for me it would be mallard green or petrol blue.

so an escos in 2wd form is much better than a 2wd saph?i had a 4x4 sierra before and i did like it and it drove really nice but the escort is shorter so didnt know if that was a good or bad thing.what about resale, does an escos being 2wd make it worth less or harder to sell?

Surely the best thing would be to drive one yourself and see what you think of it? Even better if you know someone who has one who will let you have a quick drive, or just go and see a couple and see what you think.
As with any car, plenty will say they drive badly, or drive brilliantly, but it's all down to personal choice. The only way you'll know is by getting behind the wheel yourself

Correct!!!
You can actually just buy a cradle from ford still that just bolts the box straight up or just weld a 4 inch plate along side the original mounting point to allow a 2wd cradle to fit..
The prop is 60 mm shorter than std...
Its a very easy conversion and transforms the escos to something very different from the others...
Once youve driven a std 4x4 il let you have a go in my 4th converted 2wd escos but it wont be for a month or so because im just getting it all sorted as we speak...
cheers danny

out of the two ive have the one that drove better was the one that was played with..
one of them was 330bhp but ran standard shocks with uprated springs and i liked it untill i got my otherone it was 370bhp and had gaz coilovers with the spring rates set up by nms for road use and poly bushes throughout and this drove beutiful it was alot more stable and gave me alot more confidence.
ive also had a 3dr that was 300bhp which i bloody loved and i prefered this car to drive UNTILL i went 140+mph in it and it was scary it was so unstable .
my view is the first escos was just to plain it didnt have enough power and was to soft so i think they need to be close to 400bhp and stiffened up abit before they become good fun become pretty quick. (but get it live mapped by nms and you will love it )
or 2wd it but do it properley and as i said for pissing about i loved my 3dr so much that i found the escos a bit boring untill you put decent power through them.

Escort cosworth drives like an old sierra, basicly cos it it, it a sierra floor pan.
They dont drive like mk5 escorts they just have the external bits on them to look like that.
Saying that, they are still an amazing machine to own, im trying to decide weather to get another after 5 years on but i just dont think it will ever be the same and il constantly compare it to the old one.
I miss it

Ive owned a Type R 2dr impreza and have also driven an escos and hands down the scooby wins, plus its afair bit quicker if they are both standard...iirc the escort was a MA Development tuned one with apparantly 500bhp? and the type r was standard and still held with it all around the course...i love cossies and on looks it def wins but having owned a type r i dont think the two are comaprable in performance or how they drive

Impreza, its the one that they compared the cossie with on top gear years ago.....there wasnt that many made and are all jap imports....i love cossies and will own one some day but just think for point to point and acceleration the Type R scooby is hard to beat.

its similar but better spec'd, the Type RA has the windy windows and no electrics etc
The Type R has full electrics, DCCD, IC spray, no ABS, beefed up transmission and suspension and a really close ratio box but also a longer 5th gear for motorway(well the version 6 did anyway)...they are jap import only so all need to be de-limited when they come here, will rev to 8500 rpm too lol

Yep that sounds like a Type R V limited with the roof vent...so many variants!
Still if it were side by side with a cosworth id be taking the keys of the blue oval lol

A scooby is like a dogshit though, there's one on every street corner. The escort cossie is 15 years older than the scooby and yes standard verses standard a scooby would win. The escort handles brilliantly and i would definately recommend getting one. 13-15k would get you a very good one running at least stage 3 with big brakes and konis. If you can find one witha 6 degree rear beam as well then you will have a car that will easily outhandle an impreza.

so what does a 4x4 escos handle like when going round a bend/roundabout at some speed? does it understeer/oversteer? or both? does the car try to completely spin off the map? and do you get more grip and better handling from converting it to rwd? or is it just good for spinning the back around?
