I'd say the hole in the alternater mounting block is ovaling causing the alternater to sit slightly twisted.

Try some TALCUM powder on the belt, see if it helps.

Almost there!

id say its not aligned properly, the grease will work temporarily, as will replacing the belt.
just check everything that it revolves around to ensure everything is tight, it would only need one bolt to be the slightest bit loose and something wont sit quite so square to what it should be. i definatly wouldnt say the belt is to tight as its on a sprung loaded tensioner.

as Kelv said the belt is not tightened manually, it has an auto tensioner, sometimes the auto tensioner gets weak & lets the belt get a bit slack thus causing noise.

it could also be that the belt that was originally causing the squeek has left some residue on the pulleys which has now transfered itself onto the new belt
this should be fairly easily visable theough and it was much more prevalent on the V belts than the serpentine ones which i think you would be refering to if it's an auto tensioner

Nah never found the problem, did get one of the pulleys (cant remember which one though) but couldnt find anyone to do the job would you believe! Changed the belt a couple of times then sold it...
