Default What type gearbox ?

What type of gearbox do you guys use on high powered escort cozzie's ?
Getting my Escort back in a few weeks, should make about 380bhp. So the standard box will be under a bit of pressure. Just looking on the quaife site and they're quoting £7,000 for an MT75 dog box. I'm fooked if I'm forkin out that for a gear box!!

don't go anywhere near a quaife unless you fancy spending your evenings playing "pick the broken teethout of my gearbox oil"

Bara Box all the way mate, no messing. And do a hydraulic clutch conversion while you are there as well.

Why destroy a good gearbox when you could swap it now and sell it for £300-350? ... Sorry don't get that logic at all

I don't think the standard box would fit? reason the os giken one fits is it has a removable bell housing and reyland made his own.. the standard box hasn't. If my memories are correct..

Loyd had a standard skyline box in his car i think that had a cosworth bell housing welded on, i dont see why you couldnt use an adaptor plate either. When i measured one up i think the gearstick would sit back around 4" from standard. Would also need a custom front and rear prop and a skyline clutch.

for the skyline box - there is minimal tunnel mods that need to be made.

mainly due to the size of the transfer box, Martoon has belhousing mods that pretty much allow it to fit up with not alot of agro.

Barra box is what id buy, for the money its possibly a good route to take, but is restricted on the size of what can fit inside the gearbox casing.

same issues will occur with the fixit, but downside with fixit is it can take anything up to a year to get it fixed if anything breakes on it - the back up support is purely shocking!!

Both the Fixit and Barra box's are straight cut.

and being straight cut you have to allow for a bit of extra noise over standard, and from experience the Fixit is slightly quieter than the Barra.

I suppose to, but my interest was in what you call "a bit of extra noise"

my error then, i was led to believe they were straight cut, or as good as.

but that would give the reason why they are quieter

I dont know about barra, but fixit isnt straight cut.I think it is abot 10-15deg cut and sync gears,i wouldnt go whit a straight cut dogbox or anything if u are going to use the car on the road...the noise is terrible.
Try to call Oppliger motorsport they have grearboxes.
