gearbox removal - help / advice please guys
Hello All
The next step on my underside resto is the removal of the gearbox from the engine. Whats the best/easiest way to remove this?
Do i undo the bolts holding the box to the block first or undo the hanger in the tunnel first then the block bolts?
Im also concerned that the engine will tip forward but im not sure if it can or not is there anything else i need to know about whilst doing this ????
As usual guys all help massively appreciated
Mart

its sounds quite easy to take the box out,it is but its all the other things you have to do before the box can come out that takes time.
center console out to get to the gearstick.
knock the pin out of the stick, remove the shaft.
exhaust off,
main prop off,
front prop bolts off.....pain in the arse! or drain the diff so when the prop comes out of the gearbox, oil will not go everywhere, bit of an arse to get the box and prop on at the same time though.
starter out,
gearbox bolts out, leaving one or two in and support the bx,
undo gearbox cross member and lower it off,
pull and twist the gearbox to get it off and then it lands on you
i have it all to come aswell Martin, but i'm dropping the engins/box in one.

yes Mart,
undo the front prop if you can get at the bolts, need to turn it about to fit the allen key or spanner onto them, these are a pain to come off as they are knurled at the back which grip like mad and the allen key bolt fooks up,i have had to melt bolts off before.
if they fook up,leave it on and slides the box off it,as long as you have emptied the diff oil in the box,it will be ok.
may be worth ordering some prop bolts now.
i will pm you my number and if you have any q's, just call me.
