Default How do you fit a new gear gaitor?

Right, properly started ripping the escort apart today, removed the old gear gaitor and center console, now im almost ready to fit the brand new console and gaitor, but how does the new gaitor fit over the lift up reverse part on the gear stick? can this part be removed? or do i just force the small end of the gaiter over it!
all the subs and amps are gone as is the 3miles of cables/wires! cannot believe how much it all weighed!
on the down side i tried to open the double garage door with the boot open
guess the bottom spoiler needed a re spray any way

thanks for any help!

it should be big enough to fit over it,you then turn it inside out and tighten it with the cable tie that is hidden in the seam at the top im always dreading doing that to my spoiler when the doors open
