How do you fit a new gear gaitor?

Right, properly started ripping the escort apart today, removed the old gear gaitor and center console, now im almost ready to fit the brand new console and gaitor, but how does the new gaitor fit over the lift up reverse part on the gear stick? can this part be removed? or do i just force the small end of the gaiter over it!
all the subs and amps are gone as is the 3miles of cables/wires!

cannot believe how much it all weighed!
on the down side i tried to open the double garage door with the boot open

guess the bottom spoiler needed a re spray any way

it should be big enough to fit over it,you then turn it inside out and tighten it with the cable tie that is hidden in the seam at the top

im always dreading doing that to my spoiler when the doors open

thank you! my old gaiter was so worn the zip tie was exposed, but i just thought that it was a bodge by some one! so turns out it should be there!

must admit i let out a few swear words once i knew what i had done with the door!

This i've got from the workshopmanual as i've just orderd a new one myself. This actually come's from the "how to fet a new gearbox" part.

yeah, you have to take the whole centre console out unfortunately.
