Default Starting a cossie from cold

Hi pilgrims

Just a quick question when starting a cossie from cold how long should you leave it running before you start driving it as someone said its always good to warm the turbo up and the engine and also when you have been driving it not to just turn the engine off but wait and let the turbo cool down.

Does anyone do this or what do people recommend

Cheers Pilgrims

I do what makes the engine happy, on mine it is about 2 mins warm up otherwise it is fussy, then 1 minute cool down, BUT I always do the last miles or so OFF BOOST to slow turbo down.

I tend to drive straight off as it warms up quicker than just sitting there idling...and that's what the owners manual says too.

I don't drive it on boost at all until I've been driving around for about 5 minutes or so, and give always it a minute to spool down if it's just been on boost before i turn it off.

Don't leave it sat idling cold, the oil pressure is low and will wear everthing faster, especially followers/cams etc.. Just drive it carefully until it is warm, then kill it

Cooldown, I run mine for the last 2 miles or so off boost, then 30 secs cooldown, no longer as you just heatsoak the engine and turbo

Oil pressure will be higher when cold than hot at idle, and they are total loss in the bearings anyway, with no load it does no harm if you have decent pressure anyway.

i leave my escort cossy on the drive to warm up same as my other cars (diesels etc) never have or expecting problems-same goes for garaging after a run (cossy only) let it run for a few minutes after driving home on no boost for the last mile or so-never believed in starting a car and booting it !!!-go on try it!! jump out of bed and straight out the door for a four mile run-ha-ha
