R-A-S SPORT
The escort cosworth was a car built by ford to go international
rallying, the top european team was called R-A-S SPORT.
They won the EUROPEAN RA1LY CHAMPIONSHIP in 1994
the driver who won it was called PATRICK SNIJERS,he was co=driven
by Danny Colebunders
This is the car
R-A-S stood for RING AUTO SPORT
the team were based in Chatelet near Charleroi in Belgium
Bastos ciggarettes were the sponsor along with Ford Credit
Fina oils, and Cricket&Co.
the teams president was Charles-louis Jouret
i have been searching for many months years even for info
on this Winning team that gave the ESCORT COSWORTH
its greatest championship victory, and now i have got in touch
with one of Patrick Snijers mechanics,he was there in 1993+1994
and worked for R-A-S when they got the contract from FORD
to run the WORKS team he also worked for Mike Little Preperations M.L.P
and then for some team called M-SPORT
,i will update this post as it goes
i will be asking many questions, and the guy in question
has said he will look for more pictures for me
SO MORE PICS TO COME
THE IMPERETORE, PATRICK SNIJERS R-A-S MECHANIC
this was the nickname given to him by a Italian engineer who
worked at R-A-S, his surname in Italian means THE EMPORER
and it stuck with him.
i asked him if he has information regards TARMAC settings from
the 1994 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP WINNING CAR
and his reply was "i know them cars and the WRC ones too with
my eyes shut"

so you have a problem, your wheel has come off your
wagon, you want to win the rally so you need fast service
R-A-S used 4 mechanics per car plus 1 engine engineer and 1 transmission specialist
good drivers can't help getting stuck in sometimes
keeping his eyes on things
this picture is from the Polski Raid rally in POLAND
all the cars and parts came from FORD MOTORSPORT Boreham.
on the escort cosworth,R-A-S did there own COSWORTH engines
on the WRC programme Mountune did the engines.
Francois Delacour tested the R-A-S car and demanded the
same engine be used in the official WORKS car,JOHN TAYLOR
then boss of FORD MOTORSPORT had other ideas and stopped it.
probably one reason when he helped develop the WRC ESCORT
at Boreham, M-SPORT took it over he was surplus to requirements.
he was told nothing was doing, all them years at FORDS then when
Malcom Wilson took control,he was left out
if Francois wanted a R-A-S motor he should have had one.
here is the car doing the ACCROPOLIS rally

research
I have been doing a little bit of research into this myself. A friend of mine was part of a team for Belga Rally Team with a driver by the name of Robert Droogmans in a mk 2 escort. He also however ran Patrick Snijers in another mk 2 escort. Other photo's show various cars including a rs200 who i believe was driven by one of the 2. By searching these in google not a lot appeared except the re occuring name of RAS motorsport which led me to here. Unfortunatly it is not a friend i am in touch with often so therefor hasnt shed any light on the situation but here my knowledge on the team dyes out......I am assuming, and hopefully you will put me straight that they are all conected. The person in question has gone on to create his own preperation company in wales and his son is a very succesful navigator.....Would just be nice to know more, and if i can help with anything let me know.

Hi cozzfather and all!
I have been doing some research on my Escort 909 rallycar and have found out some intresting info.
My car was seems to have been built by R-A-S SPORT Belgium.
After looking through some of the paperwork I have for it, it was registered for competitive motorsport in March 1994.
The paper work is a yellow A5 booklet with a graphic in the middle of R.A.C.B & K.A.C.B - and certificate for competition vehicles - does this mean anything to anyone?!
Cheers

I know this thread is old but I hope some of you might still be around! I'm looking for info on the R-A-S Sport team. I can't find anything other than old photos/videos of cars, this thread seems to be the only source of information!
All I can find is 'Ring Auto Service' in Chatelet Belgium however emails to them bounce back, the website no longer exists.
I need to get in touch with the team, or anyone involved with the team regarding use of the team name in an upcoming racing game. If anyone can help please let me know!
