Escort Cosworth Electrical Problem
Took my `93 Big Turbo out for its weekly thrash yesterday, have had it for 5 years and it has never let me down............until now
Was driving home when I noticed my offside headlamp had become very dim (to the point of being almost extinguished) although the nearside one worked fine and the two inner lamps worked fine on main beam (morettes fitted).
Also noticed at the same time the small indicator lamp for the heated rear screen was glowing very dimly (when it was switched `off`) although this went to its usual full brigtness when it was switched to `on`.
And to further confuse things the electric windows refused to work, when i pressed the switch nothing happened except the heated rear screen lamp glowed a bit brighter. And yes, the drivers window was stuck half way, and yes it started to rain
So managed to get it home around midnight and had a quick look around but nothing too obvious. Managed to get the fusebox out for a look and christ they run hot. No blown fuses, no frazzled wires. So put it to bed with the window still half open.............
Got up this morning, put they key in the ignition and hey presto window went straight up, just great !!!!
So basically, has anybody experienced anything similar or could suggest a likely cause so I can attempt a repair. Need to get it sorted because I know its gonna happen again just when I dont need it. I`m thinking its an earthing problem but where do I start looking ??

Did you check on top of the fuse box for any melting around the relays?
Also have you got the original big loom connector plugs under the bonnet behind the near side headlight as they get damp and cause all sorts of problems
Sounds like what ever was at fault has cooled down or dried out

Bad earth? My heated screen button used to light dimly when i pressed my boot pop, turned out to be the earthing between the bootlid and the bodywork. (mk6 RS 2000 though)

I think it's a problem with your fusebox!
But the problem with your light's can also caused due a failure in your steeringcolum lightswitch
Swap the lightswitch and the fusebox, and I think your problem is solved

I had something similar with my one, I had the dim headlamp then a slightly glowing mainbeam light on the dashboard with the sound of buzzing relays. I changed the fuse box and the problem was still there so decided to get an auto sparky round. He decided that it was a problem with the earths on the headlights. He was saying that when the lights were put on sidelight they switch to running in series... dont quote me on that though.
