Car getting hot!!
Recently noticed that the temp gauge in the car is going higher than normal. It now sits just above the N in NORM on the gauge!!
Is there anything i can do or look for as to get it to run cooler??

Its while moving, head gasket should be ok as the engine has only covered 10k miles since rebuild by Harvey Gibbs to 430 bhp and a wrc gasket was used??

If it is not using water don't worry.
The guages are VERY sensitive a few degrees makes a big guage reading, and it is still within the "NORMAL", range anyway!!
Ford guages are not the best or most accurate in the world either.
If no water being used and fans work etc then don't worry.

I'd expect it to run hotter if the power has been increased that much. Is it still the standard Ford rad ?

So it was ok @ first them started to run hot ??
If it was me I'd call Harvey and ask his advice, every car is different & he'll know what to expect from his engine.

There is a unique device that regulates the temperature, some call it a THERMOSTAT!!
It does not matter how much power it is putting out it runs at the same water temperature, as regulated by the stat, so long as rad is able to dissipate the heat and stat is working , gasket not blown etc then it is ok.
It will initially increase after a hard blast as it then has much more work to do getting rid of heat, and so the guage rises.
The test is to let it tick over until fans come on then go off, if they do then it is able to get rid of the heat effectively so cooling system is up to the job.
If you have trouble when running hard, ie it is going in the red etc then you have trouble.

If you believe that a standard engine produces the same heat as an uprated one thats up to you but I don't & neither do FORD. Why put Bonnet vents into a cossie over a normal Escort ?? or fit a bigger Rad ??
From what Andy has said this hasn't happened ever since he's had the car so something has changed. People should get the facts before telling people they don't have anything to worry about, how would you feel if he post a week later to tell you his engine has over heated ??

Changed the hose today from top of expansion tank to top of swirl pot with a samco one and new clips.Topped the expansion tank up and let it tick over on the drive for at least half an hour, was also bleeding any air out by undoing the screw on top of the thermostat housing. Fans eventually came on and looked at the gauge and it was in the middle.
Let car cool down when i had my tea and then took car for a quick spin, within 5 mins the gauge had gone back to N of NORM!!! but no higher, came home and the fans were on.
Car runs ok and is not using any water

If YOU want to get some facts straight do so, here is the first one.
HEAT IS PROPORTIONAL TO FUEL USED, as it is this fuel which produces the heat!!
Ie a 1000bhp enigine of the same type as a 200bhp engine will produce the same heat with same gearing etc and doing the same speed, as the engine is doing the same work.
Thermostat is only there to warm up!!, this must be why they have a opening and closing temp then, they do in FACT cycle back and forward(open and close) to regulate the temperature the reason some people chaneg them for cooler running ones in some cars!!!
Bonnet vents!!, are there because FORD FUCKED up on the original design of the cooling system not really changed since pinto days of less than 100bhp.
ANY car in the world would benefit from them for underbonnet temps, stops all the hot air being blown over the engine.
Cooling systems are a COMPROMISE as the manufacturer has to cram so much under a bonnet, not helped when they have air con etc as well.
This is why 2wd sapphys got no vents but 4wd did, ie ford were getting slated for h/gasket failures caused by inadequate cooling and shit design of the cooling system to start with, amongst other things.
My freinds 52 willis coupe has no bonnet vents but does have way more power than any cossie and is faster than any cossie.
No it is because it has a very effective cooling system.
it is cheaper for ford to put in bonnet vents than it is to redesign a cooling system, especialyy as they have puity additional things in the way that stop air flow, ie CONDENSOR/INTERCOOLER.
Just ask Southampton university how many cossie engines were sent back because of blown h/gasket trouble.
This was a mass market product, that desperately needed a better cooling system, but did not get it, it got the next best thing though, bonnet vents, on a lot of cars they are aesthetic.
Manufacturers do the most stupid things, but always due to cost,ie look where the intercooler is on a scooby!!

My main point which you missed was people need to ask the right questions to get to the right answers. To say a sweeping statement like thats ok, when even the owner doesn't think so is a bit much.
I think someone taking the MICHAEL when people are trying to help is out of order. As you seem to know or think you know alot more than me as demostrated above, I'll leave you to help him or tell him not to worry as you mentioned above.
All of this isn't helping this guy fix his problem.
